Grandhotel Giessbach is one of the most romantic hotels , you may find in Switzerland : It was built in 1855 high above Brienzersee - opposite of Brienz and next to a scenic waterfall. The best time for the hotel was between 1870 and 1914 but afterwards tourism changed a lot and it was hard to fill such a remote hotel.
In 1985 it was restored and it looks really great again from inside !! In Grandhotel Giessbach you may still breath the good old times, that seem to have stood still for ages there... You may get to Giessbach :
1)on the road from Brienz - BUT it is quite narrow and might be dangerous at certain times, because only at a few places it is possible to pass by other cars, and it might be good to avoid the times, when the public bus goes to Axalp.
2)By ship - the elegant, traditional way, most of the tourists came that way in the good old times of the hotel. Each and every ship on Brienzersee stops there !! Hotel Weisses Kreuz is located in the very centre of Interlaken, about 400 meters from the trainstation Interlaken West and rather close to restaurant Schuh and the famous Hoehematte.
Hotel Weisses Kreuz has a great restaurant, but I am not sure about the parking-facilities for a private car.
Weisses Kreuz is a great place to taste local specialities as :
Buendner Teller ( air-dried fillet of beaf )
Hobelkaese ( a great hard cheese )
Zuericher Geschnetzeltes
Fondue Bourgignone

I have stayed in the Gathof Hirschen Hotel over twenty times. The hotel is over 300 years old, and has been in the same family for most of its life.
Rooms are ensuite and are furnished in wood to keep in character with the hotel. All rooms have cable T.V., radio,hairdryer, and tea making facilities.
There are two dining rooms, one of which is used for breakfast in the morning.
Dinner is served in the main dining room, and the meals are all based on market fresh produce and ingredients from the hotel's own alpine farm.
There is also a bar attatched to the restaurant, and has it's own wine cellar.
The present owner, Marian Graf, is a wonderful host, and makes all her guests very welcome.
The Hirschen is situated in Matten, which is a quiet suburb of Interlaken. It is about 15 minutes walk to Interlaken Ost railway station, and about 10 minutes walk to the town centre.
There are great views of the Jungfrau mountain, from the front of the hotel, which also boasts a lovely garden and sun terrace.
The hotel is steeped in tradition and character, and I highly recommend it. I would recommend this place for a short stay at good value.
I stayed in a 4-beds room with shower, it could be tricky if 4 people are in the same time in the room. Local staff was helpful.
The in-house restaurant offer a good choice for a convenient meal.
