Just a good location

I decided to stay at the Bernerhoff hotel as it belonged to the Best Western chain and was the only hotel that belonged to a chain of hotel which in some ways and practically always guarantees what you can expect from that chain. Well in this case it was a small deception. The service was good, the location was good however the rooms were not upto the standard for the price of the room which cost 110 Euros ( October 2009)

Unique Quality: location

  • Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Hotel at the Station

We stayed at this Best Western hotel in August/September 2006 for one week. It was good, clean and right in the centre of town. Just across the road from the bus station and Interlaken West railway station - which is also right alongside the boat teminal for trips on the glorious lake Thun.

We had a small balcony and a very good standard of room. Although tea/coffee making facilities are not provided as standard we only had to ask at reception and we were given a tray with all we needed for that great British cuppa. Most appreciated! The restaurant in the hotel only served breakfast (traditional rolls/toast/jam/meats/eggs etc). No evening meals were served but there was a public restaurant just outside the hotel entrance which served reasonably priced meals along with occasional Alpenhorn blowing just to attract the punters!

The hotel staff were extremely helpful and polite and all spoke English well.

Unique Quality: The hotel is unique in that it has lots of bronze statues scattered around such as a huge dragonfly (3 foot wingspan!) bloke with suitcase (standing in entrance) and old lady in reception to name but a few.

One of the great thing about staying here whilst the Unspunnen Festival was going on was that the Procession went right past the hotel so we were able to watch from the comfort of the hotel balcony.

it is Hotel BernERhof, in princilple at a perfect place, just 100 meters to Interlaken Ost-station, BUT you have the cartrafic of the mainroad at the one side that has the balconies and at the other side you have all the trains arriving from Westbahnhof at Ostbahnhof. They will not rush, BUT go slowly and I am not sure about the noises there.
I never stayed in that hotel that was built at a triangle-strip of land not more than 30-50 meters wide, between the train-track and the road.

Hi!!

I came 15 days ago from Switz trip, so hopefully my answers will help you.

1) Jungfrau is 3571m ( 11,782 ft ). That's pretty high up for a 15 month baby but ofcourse if your fam doc has allowed then fine...You'll get to see and will be cold up there cent percent.

2)Yes there are shops where you can hire gloves, jackets n stuff eg: gloves were for 5 chf on hire

3)Personal suggestion - Whatever you do DON'T MISS Klein MATTERHORN it's heaven. It's even higher then jungfrau (12,736 ft)( not for babies I guess .....one does feel little dizzy here ) But it's MAGNIFICENT. I can say it's better then jungfrau. You have to go by 3 cable cars up the summit which go thru glaciers (AAAMAZING).

Let me know if you need anymore info....

Regards
Kaps
