Amazing Outdoor experience

Great time. Nice people, and tons of activities...Either stay here or at Balmers Hostel...

Is This a Hotel or Hostel?

If you are looking for a one stop for types of accommodation, then the Funny Farm is your place. Offering rooms from suites (did not have) to dorms (had), this place offers something for everyone's budget.

The rooms were the most spacious I had on my trip, consisting of a separate room with a double bed, and another communal room with 2 bunk beds. It had a full bathroom and also a sink / mini-kitchen area.

The people were super nice and very accommodating with our movie requests. They even went and got a movie we wanted, that they didn't have at the time. Awesome service. Just like every other place in Interlaken, they offer their own services for adventure sport hires. I found that all of them are about the same price, so just go with whoever treats you better.

With me staying at 2 of the hostels in town, I would have to say that the roms were better here because of the size, but that Balmers is the cooler atmosphere.

Can anyone help?

by martswite1

Me and a mate both 18 will be travelling to Interlaken on the 16th of august till 31st staying a fair while in a hostel called Funny Farm! We will be flying from Luton to Basel! Heres the problem its both of us first time in switzerland not really knowing what to expect! Can anyone supply us with information on...

1. How to get from Basel to SBB
2. Will I be able to survive for 2 weeks on roughly 1650sfc?
3. Will there be a major problem with the language as we do not speak fluent german or french?
4. Anyone ever stayed at Funny Farm? Whats it like?

Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks!

1. Do you mean from Basel Airport to the SBB station? there is a direct bus every 15 min, takes about 20 min one way, I think it is something like 4-5 Fr one way.
2. Shouldn't be impossible, but forget posh (and not quite posh) restaurants (I assume you speak about 1650 Fr each)... it is about the official minimum earning here.
3. Everybody will probably speak english, but if you know a couple of opening lines and standard words (good morning/evening, hello, thanks, please, excuse me, do you speak english...) in German and French, it will be appreciated.
(anyway High German won't be of much use to you as soon as you are off the beaten path)

4. Sorry, never heard of this one...

In this website you will find plenty of information about the Funny Farm: www.hostelz.com/display.php/1805+Funny-Farm

Interlaken is not a cheap place. If you want to buy foods and drinks in a shop, you should go to a supermarket: Coop (opposite to the East station) or Migros (opposite to the West station), and avoid the smaller Coop shop in the centre of town, it stays open for longer hours, but it is more expensive. At Migros and Coop they have also cafeterias, but I think they are open only at lunchtime.
