Turqoise lakes and ducks
The water of the river that flows through Interlaken was pure aqua in colour. See through and not a ripple to be seen. The ducks were having great fun in it, and provided much entertainment to us :)

Hello Everyone, I'm visiting Interlaken in April 2011 for 3 days, and I'm doing it alone!! so.. I want to do some excursions in GROUPS like hiking, biking, etc..
What do you recommend? what options do I have?
What do you think are the best places I should go?
Do you think 3 days is enough?
Hello, I've been to Interlaken a few years ago and my feeling was that 3 days was enough to see all the resort but not to really explore it. At the time we've buy a 3 days pass. Today it seems that according to: www.interlaken.ch "As a visitor in one of our resort towns you are obliged to pay a tourist tax. In return you are entitled to receive an attractive visitor’s card offering numerous reductions throughout the Jungfrau-Region. Additionally, visitors staying in Interlaken, Matten, Unterseen, Bönigen, Iseltwald and Ringgenberg-Goldswil till Niederried and Wilderswil enjoy free travel on the local public transport system. Also the guests of Beatenberg benefit! With the visitor’s card they may use the local bus from the station «Ramsern» to «Beatenberg Station» for free." They also announce endless possibilities for active holidays,
well, Interlaken in April that is at the end of winter !
Too early for biking I guess, hiking yes, BUT only in lower areas.
All kinds of Skiing should be still great at that time !

If you are young check out the above. There you will not be alone for long and they have plenty of activities.
I would spend those days up at Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Grindelwald....see Trummelbach falls, go up the gondola/cablecar to Murren and Shilthorn, day trip up to Jungfraujoch if the weather is good - it shouldnt be too early for spring flowers up around the area and its a abeautiful area in any season - theres an excellent youth hostel up at Grindelwald and walks around there would be fab.
From Interlaken you can see the follwing places depending on you interests
Ballenburg live museum;
Jungfraujoch mountain peak and
Trummelbach falls and Lauterbrunnen falls
You could also visit Wengen and Murren villages.
Have a good trip
April is very much the back end of winter. I've been at the end of May and seen a metre of snow fall on the Mannlichen in a day. You can not rely on any of the higher "tourist safe" paths being open. I would doubt the walking guides will be doing much at that time as mostly the hotels close when the snow becomes unreliable and re-open around the end of May when the paths around the 2000m mark open up (Kleine Scheidegg/Mannlichen height). Even down in the Stechelburg/Lauterbrunnen valley you might well see a fair bit of snow.
But(!) don't worry. At any time the region is wonderful and the trains and cable cars will all be open. Plan you time so that if the weather closes in you still have an idea of things to do. If the weather is good, there's no where I'd rather be.

If you do not try Swiss fondue, in all its glory, then you have missed out! I had part of three fondues... in one night!! We decided that fondue was going to be what we ate that night. So, we went to the restaurant across from Interlaken West (sorry, I cant remember the name), and soon discovered that there are varieties of fondue. Cheese, meat and, oh yeah, chocolate fondue! We got them all! We barely finshed the meat, all of the cheese, and there wasn't a lick of chocolate left.
It is the biggest "Must Eat" in Switzerland.
It seems that everyone, from the backpacker workers to the guys on snowboards are on the stuff. Up on the train to Jungfraumach the locals were cutting up and rolling whilst the train guard walked through, he didn't care because he was probably on it too. The whole carriage in fact stank of dope. After speaking with a few locals they confirmed what we had seen and blamed boredom on the habit.
Actually apart from going up to the peak and skiing / snowboarding I would imagine Interlaken would be a very boring place. Beautiful scenary and the mountains up yonder but a boring place to live and stay longterm.
When visiting the interior of Schloss Oberhofen This is certainly the highlight : The Turkish smoking-saloon / Tuerkischer Rauchsalon was built in 1855 at the highest floor of the big tower in the centre of the castle. This saloon looks quite impressive with precious ornate woodcarvings at the walls and the ceiling, lovely furniture, sofas etc. Saloons like that were found in many palaces of kings and rich merchants of that time. I remember a similar room in Schloss Linderhof in Bavaria (a palace of mad King Ludwig II)
My main picture looks a lot lighter, when you enlarge it !
