good for short stay

I stayed in this hotel in the summer. Initially, I fell in love with this place. It is an old house converted into a hotel. The owners have maintained it very well. It is very rare to be able to experience living in old swiss style house. It is a warm and cozy place. However, I would not recommend it for those who are claustrophobic. The ceilings are too low, the inside of the house is too dark.
I think that this place is a bit over-rated for the price that we pay.

The basic facilities are good. (Clean toilets, clean bedsheets etc) The staff is very friendly and breakfast is excellent.

If you plan to stay for a day or 2, the experience is worth the price. I would not recommend this place for those who plan for a long stay.

Also, this hotel is about 15 mins walk from the main railway station. The hotel does not have lifts/elevators. So not suitable for travellers with a heavy bag-pack.

Beautiful Swiss Chalet Style Hotel

I have stayed in the Gathof Hirschen Hotel over twenty times. The hotel is over 300 years old, and has been in the same family for most of its life.
Rooms are ensuite and are furnished in wood to keep in character with the hotel. All rooms have cable T.V., radio, hairdryer, and tea making facilities.
There are two dining rooms, one of which is used for breakfast in the morning.
Dinner is served in the main dining room, and the meals are all based on market fresh produce and ingredients from the hotel's own alpine farm.
There is also a bar attatched to the restaurant, and has it's own wine cellar.
The present owner, Marian Graf, is a wonderful host, and makes all her guests very welcome.

Unique Quality: The Hirschen is situated in Matten, which is a quiet suburb of Interlaken. It is about 15 minutes walk to Interlaken Ost railway station, and about 10 minutes walk to the town centre.
There are great views of the Jungfrau mountain, from the front of the hotel, which also boasts a lovely garden and sun terrace.
The hotel is steeped in tradition and character, and I highly recommend it.

The oldest hotel in Interlaken

I HAVE STAYED AT THE GASTHOF HIRSCHEN MANY TIMES AND AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE YEAR. I HAVE ALWAYS FOUND FRAU GRAF TO BE THE PERFECT HOST AND ALWAYS WILLING TO GIVE USEFUL INFORMATION ON SIGHTSEEING.
THE MEALS ARE TREMENDOUS, AND THE HOTEL IS WARM AND FRIENDLY.
I HAVE NO HESITATION IN RECOMMENDING IT TO ANYONE.
I, ALONG WITH MY WIFE LYNN LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT VISIT.
