Hasliberg Hiking
by sandysmith
My fondest memory of this area was taking the cable-car from Hasliberg (just above Meiringen) to Planplatten (2245m) - the Alpen tower with fellow VT'er Rebibi (Elisabeth). From here we did a nice hike across to Kasserstatt (1840m) on the "High Trail" and down to Bidmi (1423m) where we caught the cable-car back down to Hasliberg-Reuti (1061m). Only about 2.5 hrs of walking but we also enjoyed 2 cake stops en route!!
This pic show one such stop for a meringue at the apline hut ogf Haaggen (2010m). I'm glad it arrived with 2 spoons so Elisabeth could help me out ....it was huge and very creamy.
lots of activities for Sherlock-Holmes-Fans
by globetrott
There are lots of activities for Sherlock-Holmes-Fans in and around Meiringen. Every year there are "pilgrimages" of Sherlock-Holmes-societies from places all over the world and they come to Meiringen in their costumes, visiting all the important places in that area.
See the pics, that I saw in a window at the station of Reichbachfall-funicular.
In Hotel du Sauvage you may attend a 4-course-menu and have to solve a murder-mystery togeather with other guests and some actors.

THE VIEW OF THE HASLIBERG-REUTI MOUNTAINS
by JudyinPA
THIS WAS A VIEW I DID NOT GET TO SEE, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NEAR OUR APARTMENT. THE WEATHER WAS CLOUDY. THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN BY A SWISS FRIEND. THERE ARE SEVERAL HIKING TRAILS AND MOUNTAIN CLIMBING DONE IN THE AREA.
the church & campanile of Meiringen
by globetrott
The church of Meiringen was the very first church in the valley - the big church that you may see today dates back to 1684 but underneath it's wooden floor you will find remains of the very first church that was built at this place. Outside of the church you may enter the vaults under the church - free of charge and without restrictions during the day. Automatic lights will turn on, when you enter !
The campanile / belltower was built seperately - quite unusual for a church in Switzerland !
Meiringen and Reichenbachfalle
by Kate-Me
While in Europe on the last trip, we made 2 little excursions to the Meiringen area, firstly to see the Reichenbachefalle (Reichenbach Falls).
Being a Sherlock Holmes fan, my husband really wanted to see the site of the fictitious 'death scene' of Sherlock Holmes.
