All over the Hasli valley you will find cattle in the pastures. This is picture book Switzerland. Usually the cows wear a bell which comes in various sizes. If you have accommodation next to a cattle pasture you may have trouble sleeping if you are unused to the bell concert. So come prepared and bring some ear plugs.

HOME FOR A WEEK

HERE WE ARE IN OUR APARTMENT ON THE MOUNTAIN ABOVE MEIRINGEN AT HASLIBERG REUTI. THANKS TO REBIBI AND REMOS WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO STAY IN THIS WONDERFUL HOUSE. IT WAS SO NICE TO STAY IN ONE PLACE FOR A WEEK INSTEAD OF DIFFERENT HOTELS EACH NIGHT. IT WAS SEPT. 23RD AND THE SNOW CAME DOWN. I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN SWITZERLAND WHEN IT SNOWED. FLOWERS WERE STILL OUT AND VERY PRETTY WITH SNOW ON THEM. If you would like an apartment in the mountains please write to me and I will give more information.

Hasli museum

The Hasli museum is a local lore museum. It is next to the last old wooden houses which weren't destroyed in the various "Foehn" storms.

The "Foehn" is a very warm wind that is created coming from the south over the alps which makes views crystal clear but it can also light fires and give people headaches.

Welcome to Meiringen

I first visited Meiringen and surroundings as a child. Later I went on a day tour to Grimsel to see the cristals in the mountain and on that occassion we also visited the Aareschlucht. I must have been quite fascinated by that gorge because I decided to return once more.

So, for me the reason to visit Meiringen is neither Sherlock Holmes nor skiing in winter but the gorge and of course the famous "merengues" (see local customs).
