Familienhotel Tourist: A cheap hotel with view on the Reichenbach falls
My husband and I stayed at the Familienhotel Tourist for a long week-end at the end of June. We were given a small room with a tiny bathroom with shower and WC, compensated by a beautiful view of the Reichenbach falls. More than a hotel, it is a restaurant with rooms. In fact, there is no reception area: the keys are given at the bar of the restaurant. Breakfast was regular: cold cuts, an excellent hard cheese, cereals, yogurt, bread, butter, marmelade, nutella, orange juice and your choice of tea or coffee. We booked the room with half-board for an extra 25 Swiss francs per person, and were very satisfied with dinner: a soup or salad, an abundant entree and an ice-cream dessert (the last day included the famous local meringues).
The hotel is decorated with the local dwarf characters and has an outside playing area with games, rabbits and goats, very popular with children. The hotel is at 10-15 minutes walking distance from Meiringen, just two blocks away from the Reichenbach falls train. In its category, it is a good hotel. The only down-side was that we found found the welcome very cold. However, it is a characteristic of the locals. On the last day, they had warmed up to us!

Hotel Rosenlaui: Wonderful Old Hotel Near Meiringen
The Hotel Rosenlaui is absolutely wonderful. The guide books will tell you that it was once an absolute gem, attracting royalty and the rich and famous of another age. Look closely, we are told, and you will see the signs of an aging queen of a hotel. And that is true, but then why look closely? Simply put, we loved it and here we ate the most elegant meal that we had on our entire trip to Switzerland; we?d go back again in a heartbeat.
Hidden in the forest high above (and to the west of) Meiringen, the Hotel Rosenlaui can be reached by car in about 15 minutes, that is unless you stop off along the way to visit the Reichenbach Falls where Holmes and Moriarity tumbled into the abyss.
You can see that it is set into a steep hillside and most of the guest rooms face the front. What you can?t see is the wide brook that runs with snowmelt past the front of the hotel and that absolutely sings you to sleep at night. As for the rundown, dowdy atmosphere, take a look at these pictures and if they signify a bygone age, so be it. I found it enchanting.
Biking and hiking trails lead from here over the Grosse Scheidegg pass down into Grindelwald.

Rebibi's Family Home: Home from home comfort
For my stay in Reuti Hasliberg I was wonderfully invited to stay at fellow VT'er Rebibi's family home, idyllically situaated just above Meirringen with the mountains for company.
It was real home from home experience...I had this 3 bedroom apartment all to myself, Judy and her friend were in another apartment, Rebibi and her husband in the new small apartmanet .. Rebibi's brother in law was in an apartment on the top floor...getting the idea of how big this place is now??
