Hotel Emmental is quite a cheap hotel, mainly ment for young people and in summer 2005 the price per person was 80 sfr (55,- euros) including breakfast, that is quite reasonable when you are familiar with the price-level of swiss hotels. This place is a hotel for more than 100 years now and has also a cafe and restaurant.
Some of the hotel-rooms have a great view on the castle of Thun and at the other side of the street you may see the monument for Fulehung. - see my last 2 pics !
The location of this hotel is a bit noisy, directely at a busy round-about and the restaurant has also a shady terrace.
The restaurant is open in summer:
Monday-Friday : 11.00a.m.-02.00 + 04.00p.m. till midnight
Saturday & Sunday : 10.00a.m. till midnight (sat till 11.00p.m.)

Hotel Krone is a modern 4-star Hotel that was built into an old house at the townsquare of Thun, next to the Rathaus / townhall. The old building used to be the "Zunfthaus zu Pfistern" (all guilds working with wheat: millers, bakers and confectioners) and dates back to the 15th century.
The hotel offers 27 modern hotelrooms, banquet-facilities for up to 60 persons, a sunny terrace facing the river Aare and a garage for all guests.
The restaurant has swiss, french and chinese kitchen
Hotel Krone is in the very centre of town, where all of the public car-trafic is reduced to the people living there and all places of interest are within a short walking-distance. This is certainly a great place to have a quiet vacation in a beautiful surrounding !

Naturfreundehaus (Nature's friends) was where I put up for a night in Grindelwald. Run by a hospitable German couple, the charge for a double room was 38 CHF pp including breakfast. The rooms are not spacious but very cosy.
The washrooms are located on each of the three storeys but the shower rooms can only be found on the ground level.
Because it sits on a hill it will take about 15 mins or more to climb up there from the Grindelwald train station. Be warned that the path isn't very gentle but I must admit the hostel is a very nice place to lodge.
There is an electronic information and booking system at its disposal near the station. Some information include cost, location and amenities offered by the hotels, hostels or chalets listed. Just by making a free phone call to any of the lodgings, you can easily check the availability of room(s).

One night with breakfast costs 50 CHF, and you have to pay the guests tax in Faulensee, which is 2,40 CHF a day!
Breakfast is served on the terrace as long as the weather is nice enough and you will get useful infos and tips from your hosts! They will definately make the best of your stay, believe me!
You have your own terrace and share the bathroom and toilet with the other guests. The house is situated in a quiet area and you always have the view over Lake Thun! It´s just the perfect place! a dorm cost CHF24 to a CHF88 (junfrau view) for twin sharing.
the atmosphere was very peaceful, guest were respectful of others, the staff were great...we remember bridget the most - she was so nice to us, especially since we came into the lodge so late at night, there's a kitchen in the basement where you could cook and basically meet up with other travellers. i'd recommend this over balmers which caters more to the rowdy american crowd. If you're with a small group of people, and you have a vehicle, it's definitely worth while renting a chalet. In the vicinity of Thunersee and Briensersee there are several smaller towns with beautiful wooden chalets for rent (Zu Vermieten). They look like they come straight out of a Heidi movie. Most have superb views plus lots of peace and quite.
These places are not for one-night stays, it's a weekend or week at least. We paid about 100 EURO per person for a one week stay.
