Sister city of Gaylord?

Has anyone in Pontresina (sp)heard of Gaylord Michigan USA? Supposedly Pontresina is Gaylords "sister city". Do you claim Gaylord as a sister? Why? Whats it all about?

I was raised in Gaylord and have been to Pontresina specifically to ascertain if they claim us overtly as a sister city. I was very disappointed after wandering around this small city to not see one mention of Gaylord anywhere. I plan to return to Pontresina this year with my family to see if I missed something.

Wow... that's we call a resurrected thread! 3 years after!

liberty23: there is no point on traveling to a sister-city on search of "something" because is not that you missed something, is that probably there is NOTHING to see (at least regarding this matter). In some cases, the most you can find is a sign/plaque somewhere saying "this city is sister city of XXXX". But usually there are only some agreements between city councils, maybe folk groups from one performing at the other at certain festivities, art exhibitions now and then.... who knows. It's usually nothing you can find during a random visit. If you are really interested, contact your city council and ask what they do

and... just out of curiosity, is there in Gaylord any mention to Pontresina? anything that a visitor will easily find?

Wow, a blast from the past! I live near Gaylord and yes, there is some restaurants that you go into that mention Pontresina as a sister city. I think more than anything though, it gives Gaylord a reason to keep and promote their architecture in an Alpine style.

Thanks CO, I was getting intrigued. I would never though on visiting a "sister-city" just from this reason. I do live in Barcelona that seems to be sister-city of Boston (US) and my birthplace, Vlanova i la Geltrú is sister city of Matanzas (Cuba). In none of both places you will find anything related to their sister cities, not even in restaurants or tourism-related places. I just remember hearing something years ago..... but I had to search Google to find out whose cities were our "sisters"!

Cubelles, a town I go frequently is sister-city of Arles-sur-Tech in France. There is a plaque about this just below the plaque of the town name on the road. Nothing else, and not even a remote resemblance on architecture or culture... I went to Arles once on holiday and there were brochures of Cubelles at the tourist info office. But funny enough, the lady there had no idea why they had these, it was fun, we had to explain to her!
