Viano & Alpe San Romerio
by german_eagle
A mini bus takes you up (adventurous, lots of hairpin curves!) from Brusio in Poschiavo valley to the little village Viano which nestles high above the valley floor on a sunny terrace. A well marked hiking path leads you via Alpe San Romerio (restaurant, Romanesque church) to Le Prese or Poschiavo (5 hours) offering stunning views all the time.
Not quite a white Christmas
by ChristaV
It was not December, we were a few months too early for a white christmas, but boy it surely felt like one. We were so excited when we woke up on our second morning and the whole world changed into a winter wonderland.

"Glazier Express to St Moritz"
A friend told us about the Glazier Express which runs from Zermatt to St Moritz and about the great special that was on offer. Not sure why they call it the Glazier Express as it takes the whole day to get there, but the scenery is worth it. I persuaded my sister that we had to do this trip and have never ever regretted a minute of it. It was with great expectations that we got onto the train in Zermatt (which was such a delight and lived up to our expectations) to go to Saint Moritz. I had these flashes of meeting up with Sean Connery or some other famous person that I always read about visiting this place.
We had the most fantastic lot of German’s who were extremely “gemutlich” and were tasting wines etc for our journey. The landscape was absolutely fantastic, but I must admit that I was very disappointed as there was no snow in Saint Moritz only overcast weather and drizzling rain to welcome us.
"St Moritz"
It was with initial dissapointment that I entered the Upper Engadine Valley with its major place St. Moritz. I was expecting a lot of snow and there were none, but fortunately on our second night it started snowing around 01h00 that night. I just sat in front of the hotel window staring at the snow to scared to go to sleep in case it stopped snwing. St. Moritz is quite an overbuilt resort with the usual problems: crowded, noisy, expensive, but that does not mean that you cannot spend great holidays here. The beauty of the Engadine is not to be beaten easily. The combination of large lakes, embedded in a wide open valley with huge snow capped mountains is breathtaking. Lush, green forrests, white glaciers and the blue sky offer a fascinating contrast.
