Accomodation in St Moritz
by vidyatrips
Hi all,
Me and my husband are going for our "babymooning" trip to Swiss and Austria. We have planned for 3 nights in St Moritz. We will be getting there from Zermatt on the Glacier Express. And plan to fit in Bernina Exp in one of the 3 days we will be there. Want to spend the other two days exploring the region and small villages near-by. That is the broad plan we have for the region.
Now for the issue - we are not able to find any b&b or affordable hotel in this area. The ones we checked out are either booked out or are too expensive. Any pointers to smaller, affordable and clean hotels? Our budget is in the range of E90-130 per night.
Thanks & Rgds,
Vidya

www.bnb.ch or www.rooms.ch migh help in his regard. There is a nice hotel in Celerina - Hotel zur Post - they brew their own beer and are in the center of a pretty village.
You won't find a hotel or B&B for the equivalent of 90-130 E (which would be 140-200 SFr) for two in St. Moritz or Zermatt proper... This is IMO a small loss because St. Moritz is grotesquely ugly - even more so for the extremely beautiful countryside it is set into. Zermatt is overbuilt and overcrowded too.
Look into the villages along the Upper Engadine above and below St. Moritz - especially Silvaplana, Sils Maria, Celerina, Pontresina, Samedan...
Be aware that most hotels in Switzerland charge per person, not per room, so read small print.

Travel Tips for Saint Moritz
The Maloja - passroad
by globetrott
The Maloja - passroad is west of St. Moritz
and 1815 meters / 5955 feet above sealevel
When arriving in Maloja on the road from St. Moritz the road is totally flat there and you will be surprised when coming to the highest point of that passroad without any place to drive steeply uphill first. Obviously the road is going down steeply in the other direction, towards Chiavenna in Italy.
I did not go there, so I dont know for sure, but I did some walking in the village of Maloja before I drove back to St. Moritz and my favorite building was the hotel Schweitzerhof, built completely of wood and some houses covered by natural plates of stones like in my main photo.
Mountain railway -video tour
by StuartDutchman
Enjoy the views travelling by funicular between the summit Corviglia (2486m) and St. Moritz-Dorf (1856m).
A funicular, also known as a funicular railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rails moves them up and down a steep slope, the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalancing each other.

A great small town
by Cristian_Uluru
Saint Moritz is a nice small town in the Kanton Grischun. It is very nice to spend a day here: you can relax on the lake, walking, skying on the Bernina and also making shopping.
The best way to reach this fantastic town is by Train. From Tirano (Italy) to Saint Moritz there is the Bernina Express:it's a great experience because you can see wonderful landscape and you climb the mountain to the Bernina Piz (2253 m.), you pass the Lake of Paschiavo and finally you arrive to the nice Tirano in Italy.
