The soloturn catedral is wonderful my family, there live all in this country.
One can easily be atop the Weissenstein (1284 meters) above Solothurn from where there are beautiful views of the Swiss plateau and the alps behind. One either drives or takes the train to Oberdorf, then the chair lift. The train takes 15 minutes and the lift 16.(Not my picture)
WE HAD ARRIVED HERE BY TRAIN FROM BRUNIIG. A VERY PLEASANT CITY ON THIS BEAUTIFUL RIVER, AARE. THE POPULATION IS 15,592. THERE IS A WALLED OLD TOWN WHICH STILL HAS 2 OF IT'S OLD GATES. THE ORIGINAL HOUSES ARE VERY COLORFUL WITH THEIR SHUTTERS PAINTED IN MANY DIFFERENT COLORS. THE FRENCH AMBASSADORS CHOSE THIS LOCATION FOR THEIR HOMES AND BROUGHT WITH THEM AN INTEREST IN ART AND INTELLECT TO THE CITY. SOME OF THE RESIDENTS STILL SPEAK FRENCH AND THE FRENCH RESTAURANTS ARE EVERYWHERE.
OUR REASON FOR STOPPING HERE WAS TO TAKE THE BOAT TO BIEL IN THE MORNING. WE HAD AN AFTERNOON TO WALK THROUGH THE OLD TOWN AND LOOK AT THE BAROQUE BUILDINGS.
