Hotel Frohsinn: Small 2* hotel
Frohsinn is a small hotel at the village of Erstfeld. We've spent one night here in November 2008. The hotel building dates back from the late 19th century which means that the corridors are pretty contorted and the rooms are quite small. But don't worry, the building has been extended and renovated several times and does now have some modern amenities like an elevator, for example. Our room was simply furnished but did have a TV, radio, safe, desk and even a tiny balcony with a beautiful mountain view. All rooms are en suite. The staff was very friendly and helpful, too. Breakfast was served at the restaurant and included bread, Swiss cheese, cereals, coffee, water and juice (on request). Pretty simple but tasty and filling.
Hotel Frohsinn is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding sights like Lake Uri, Lake Lucern, Jagdmatt chapel or various hiking trails. The hotel also presents itself as a convenient resting place when travelling the Gotthard route.
The hotel is located just opposite Erstfeld train station but we've not been disturbed by any noise so I assume that the windows are double glazed.
Family rooms are available on request.
Downstairs there is a small restaurant which also seems to serve as the village pub. The menu includes some regional gastronomic specialities. I especially recommend to try the regional beer which is called "Klosterbräu".
