Winterthur to Zurich train

by foxythang2000

Hi everyone!

I'm travelling to Switzerland in May and I don't quite understand the timetable/ticket availability on the SBB site.

I want to get from Winterthur to Zurich on the 19th May, possibly close to midnight. Are there trains running at this hour? And what will the cost be?

My plan is to do Basel > Lucerne > Winterthur > Zurich > Geneva.
If anyone would be able to give me train prices between these areas and where and when to buy tickets, it'd be very much appreciated!!

Jenn

Hafas shows trains from Wintherthur to Zurich on 19/5 at 23:52 arr. 00:11, at 00:08 arr. 00:40 and at 00:30 arr. 00:54, all direct (and after that at 01:30, 02:30) but as these are local trains you can't buy tickets online (at least not from Hafas), you just turn up at the station when you want to travel (like a bus).
As for the price, I would advise you to get this from Swiss Railways when you get there, e.g. when you buy your first tickets in Basel.

On night S-Bahn trains you will need a late night supplement for 5 Fr additional to the ticket. Since both Winterthur and Zürich are in the ZVV area the prices are determined by ZVV (www.zvv.ch). The ZVV tickets are zone to zone tickets, e.g. from anywhere in Winterthur to anywhere in Zürich, including the use of tram/bus in either city.
