Celebrate New Year at the Limmat!
by lobopequeno
Many native "Zuericher" celebrate New Year at the shores of the river Limmat and espec. the Limmatquai.
It was big fun to party with them in a peaceful & friendly atmo. The local hoteliers finance a spectacular firework every year which starts at 00:20 and lasts for 20 minutes. AAAAAAAHHHH, OOOOOOOHHH !!!
The firework is started from two boats on the Limmat, so make sure that you have a good view over the river and some fine booze on-hand for the show. Surely the friendly Zuericher!

As vt members dont like to be out of touch with their 'friends' too long, we did see a couple of internet cafes.
This one we went in, so I could catch up on my mail!!!
It cost 5chf about £2.50 for 30 minutes.
It does not sell any drinks or food though and has a few arcade type games.
It is situated on the corner of Neiderdorf and Muhlegasse.
Street Parade - Love Freedom Peace Tolerance
by Tripack
The Street Parade is a demonstration in favour of love, peace, freedom and tolerance. For years, the absolutely peaceful mood has been one of the hallmarks of the Street Parade. The visitors are demonstrating in favour of non-violent cooperation – no matter what race, skin colour, religion, sexual orientation or interest groups people belong to. The last 14 years have shown that this peaceful, tolerant coexistence and cooperation is possible at the Street Parade.
Move your mind and your body...
In addition to the 32 creative Love Mobiles with their giant sound systems, this year's Street Parade will also include 5 stages equipped with the latest technology and 8 huge LED screens with a laser and light show. This is the largest number of giga-screens that has ever been seen at an event in Switzerland.
The 2.4 km–long Street Parade route will be the same as in the previous year. The Street Parade will begin at 3.15 pm at Utoquai in the Zürich neighbourhood of Seefeld, from where it will head around the lakefront via Bellevue, Quaibrücke and Bürkliplatz, arriving at Hafendamm Enge at around 10 pm. The fun will continue at the after-parties at Opernhaus, Bellevue, Bürkliplatz, Rentenanstalt and Limmatquai until midnight. The entire Street Parade route can be easily reached on foot from the city centre or the central station.
My own opinion on Swiss people...
by Volare
My own opinion on Swiss people (beeing myself a Catalan-Spanish) is rather positive. They are generally tolerant, diplomatic, do things well and plan in advance. Therefore try to schedule meetings far in advance, be punctual and respectful. Be aware that although Zürich is a very international city not everybody speaks good English.
Burning of the Böögg on Sechseläuten
by cynthi
Now why would the poeple of Zurich want to burn such a cute little snowman? Well, to get rid of winter, of course. It's also supposed to be a good indicater of how hot the summer will be... the amount of time until his little head explodes. I was too focused on the snowman to think about taking pictures of the processions that occured before the big event at 18:00 in, where else but the Sechseläutenplatz. This event occurs once a year in April, In 2005 it was on the 18th.
