Best destination in April (for weather)

Best destination in April (for weather)

Hi, I would like to know from people who pay close attention to weather, which region is best for the month of April (April 10-May1)

1) Switzerland (focusing on hiking, clear mountain views, or blue sky)
2) Austria (focusing on Western Austria, hiking, clear mountain views, or blue sky)\
3) Southeastern Germany (Munich, and the German alps)
4) Brussels (cycling, blue sky)
5) Amsterdam (cycling, blue sky, landscape photography)

Perhaps, a better question is which destination has the least rain in April, or the higher number of sunshine hours?

Thanks

p.s. If April is not a good time for either destination, can you recommend the month that's better for each place? (Not July/August of course, since it's too touristic, and not winter either, since I don't ski), but the dry, shoulder season with clear visibility, and blue sky (focusing on landscape photography, and outdoors).

Just don't say May, because I am going to Iceland (supposed to be the best time).

Thanks again very much

we have a saying here in Switzerland: April does how its pleases meaning everything could happen...snow to summer temperatures. It is kind of a unstable month but the last few years I had the impression that it was always kind of nice...However beginning of April you could be in troubles with high mountain hiking...meaning there is still too much snow most likely....and most cable cars will not be running...normally the ski season ends at Easter and then everything in the high mountain closes....

Travel Tips for Zürich

A moment of ecstatic discovery

by KennetRose

Shall I tell? If I do you won't get the same thrill.

Oh, go on then! It was going into the Fraumünster, looking up, and realising that those weren't just ordinary stained-glass windows - they are in the unmistakeable style of Marc Chagall!

I've created a separate travelogue with pictures of the Chagall windows.

Explore - you will be surprised!!

On both sides of the river, there are so many tiny little alley ways, that open up into beautiful squares. You will be amazed at the beautiful buildings.

I loved this little square with its fountain.

Have Raclette and Fondu

by Etoile2B

Our first night in Zurich we had a traditional fondu dinner with friends. They also introduced us to raclette. Raclette is basically grilling a piece of cheese on a grill then eating it with bread, pickles and meats. Traditionally fondu and raclette are served in the winter but occasionally you can still find these traditional dishes on the menu at restaurants in the Summer months. This became a favorite of ours on our travels. Although finding a Raclette grill in the US was difficult and expensive!!

Packing List

by Sirod

I photograph most with 200 ASA (Because weather can chance ) and a 28 - 200 mm Tele Objektive. Enough spots ! Nothing special anless much money ...
Sometimes it is raining as normal in Central Europe. Good Shoes are not worse, when you like trekking Uetliberg (1 hour ) or some other mountain around

Rote Fabrik Kulturzentrum & Ziegel Oh Lac

by janicke73

Situated on the Lake Zürich, the Ziegel Oh Lac is one of my favourite places to go for a brunch, lunch, coffee or dinner on a sunny day. The ambience is definetly "alternative" and Coca Cola not to be bought, but a sign on the wall reminds you that drugs are indeed illegal... The entire once silk-factory area, constructed in 1892 by Carl Arnold Séquin, was after a peoples' initiative in 1974, and various more or less legal actions over the years to follow, finally made into an official center for different cultural events and group activities in 1981. It's definetly worth checking out if you're not after white-tablecloth dinners and/or menus in several languages.
