I found this hotel through the website www.hrs.de ("hrs" meaning Hotel Reservation Service).
It is quite close to the main railway station, and is reasonably priced. I paid 110 Swiss Francs for a single room with breakfast, which is EUR 70.67 or $85.64 (that's American dollars, not Australian).
Unique Quality: The rooms are air conditioned, which I suppose is a good feature if you happen to be in Zürich on one of the few hot days of the year.
They have "Pay TV" that you don't have to pay for. This is quite unusual, but I can't imagine just sitting around in a hotel room and watching television, when so much else is going on in Zürich.
To sum up: If you've seen one hotel, you've seen them all.
(My motto, not theirs.)
I stayed there on two separate nights. The rooms are clean. Shower and toilet in the room. Although you pay nearly twice as much in Zurich as you would other places in Switzerland, the price is very competetive. Air conditioning barely worked in both rooms I was in.
The location is excellent - one block from the main Hauptbahnhof.
Breakfast is included in the price, but it is VERY simple - bread (very good), butter, jam, and about a 1/2 cup of orange juice or coffee. Eggs are extra and fairly pricey. I wouldn't account for the breakfast in the price of the hotel as you'll probably end up eating somewhere else.
Unique Quality: Excellent location!
Breakfast was the most simple of any place I stayed at in Europe (bread, butter, and jam).
Directions: One block from the Hauptbahnhof (across the river).
Hi, i have a few questions if some one might be able to help.
i am staying overnight in zurich on April 20 and arrive approximately 7pm.
as i have only the night and the morning and i have never been to zurich before, i am female and on my own, i am wanting to know:
1. whats the weather like at that time?
2. where should i stay?
3. whats there to do at night? any tours at night?
4. and since i only have the morning to explore what would be the best thing for me to do (since my plane leaves at 1pm the next day)
Hi,
as to the weather: hard to predict, but it's early spring and could be rather warm as well as very chilly (average in April 12 centigrade)
A good option to stay might be Hotel Arlette close to the main station and famous "Bahnhofstrasse"(hotels in Switzerland are not cheap, it will cost around USD 80-100 for a single room)
Difficult to recommend an evening program: it is very, very nice to go to one of the restaurants in the Old City, called "Zunfthäuser" (where once the guilds held their meetings) and get some of the famous Swiss specialities, as fondue or raclette with a good glass of wine.
If I were you, I would post/propose a meeting of some VTers. There are around 700 VTers in Zuerich and, as I suppose, they will be glad to meet you and have a drink or meal together!
