Trains depart from Zurich HB from 0707 everywhere two hours, these are direct trains, no change along the way, travel time is 3h41m. There are other trains but you must change trains along the way. There are a limited number of tickets with advance purchase from 25CHF. You can go to the swiss rail website and book and print off your ticket. www.sbb.ch

Zurich is a very compact town. It is not too big and everything is walkable distance. This is my favourite town in the German-speaking countries. Everything remarkable is around the lake. Its symbol is a watch figure, made of flowers around the lake. It has many interesting evangelic churches, most of them linked to Zwingli, who initiated the Reformation in whole Europe. I guess in the western part of the city up in the hill is a very nice place, offering a panoramic view over Zurich.

Hi,
I think you best buy 24 h pass which allows you to use any kind of public transport within city zone, cost is around 8 Euro you can buy and print it at machines by the stations. Your ride from airport is not included in this price (needs to be up-graded or so) because airport is another zone yet. I didn't try going there myself but its not far to the centre (best to begin explore to city at Hauptbanhof - the main train station). Then take a walk towards the TZurich lake, you can walk along the river or in the main shopping street, Banhofstrasse, stop along the churches and Lindnhof for the nice panorama of Zurich, pass the river over the bridge to see Grossmunster and old streets there, take a walk to Bellvue and if you're not tired yet, walk by the lake side towards Zurichhorn (or ride a tram or bus in that direction, Tieffenbrunnen is the last stop till where you can ride on 24 h pass and it's close to it). There are couple of interesting things to see in that area including lovely park, and if you have an interest in architecture you can see Le Corbusier's building which is museum now (check for opening hrs because it's almost always closed) there. Or go to see China garden, it's quite an exotic thing there.
You should check the VTers Zurich sites (some of them live there, other are frequent visitors) here for excellent descriptions on how to use public transport, rent a bikes, sights, restaurants, etc... I found them most useful for my recent visit.

Hi, I don't have any idea on Swiss public transport, since the city is pretty compact and easily walkable. But this might be my point of view - I am used to walking a lot and some people might not like the idea.
Travel Tips for Zürich
New Year Outdoor celebration
by picek
We spent New Year count-down on a S-train but it doesn't matter, we didn't miss Zurich highlight of a night - the fireworks. If you want best views it is good to be early somewhere by the Zurich lake shores because it will be the crowdest spot of the city as the midnight approach, with countless people participating - in their best mood, with glasses of wine to toast, some will bring their own, other will buy it from the provisoric booze-stands. So, reasonably those who come earlier get the best views - but minds your camera on tripod, nevertheless. We had a thick fog that day but this has its atmosphere too when colored fireworks spread along the air - of the glamourous dimensions, accompanied by the blast of sound. The lights by a fog are simply different than lights on a normal night. The 'explosions in the sky' would begin 20 past midnight.
pay a visit to the opera house...
by supermarek
pay a visit to the opera house and watch a ballet performance: the company is starring one of the most elegant and technically accomplished couple in the classic repertory i've ever seen. so if there's GISELLE, NUTCRACKER, CINDERELLA or LA FILLE MAL GARDEE on, go and get a ticket! the opening sequence of ballet director heinz spoerli's '...UND MIED DEN WIND' is also a must!
Zürich Tip

Lookes like Little Havanna in Zurich :-)
Picture shows an old car on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse and behind you see a Tram of No. 2 which goes from Tiefenbrunnen Station through the whole city up to Farbhof in Zurich Altstetten.
Doggy toilet
by matcrazy1
.
I've found this doggy toilet on the highway (autobahn) parking somewhere near Zurich. I wonder whether my dog would like to use it? Hmm... I travel abroad without a dog and I didn't use this toilet (US restroom) to be honest.

Skiing in Davos

The picture shows an un ending lines of tourists that are going for the early morning Ski. This is a normal sight in Davos. Organised ski tours are abound and for those lovers of ski, this is the best place to be!
