Funky with a great location

A few minutes walk across the bridge from the Hauptbahnhof is the Limmatblik, a small, contemporary hotel independently owned on the Limmatquai itself.

A welcoming openfronted bar (DADA Bar) greets you and your suitcases as you trundle down the street (too close to the station to bother with a taxi). Space in the building is at a premium so the reception is an extension of the bar, but as a result you're dealt with very quickly by the friendly and attentive staff.

Lift to the floors above is tiny - just about fits 2 people and 2 suitcases and the areas in front of the lifts also tiny, but hey - you're not staying in the lift or the foyer....

Rooms are small so worth paying those few extras Swiss Francs for the next size up from standard. And be warned - Swiss law does not allow air conditioning in the buildings of the old city.

Rooms are extremely comfortable with opening windows to the street, stripped wood floors, lots of product in the bathroom. Again, they're not huge - we stayed in two different rooms over the course of our (split) stay and the room on the 4th floor was larger than the one on the 2nd.

Breakfast is served in the DADA Bar - not a huge spread but more than ample with meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, yoghurt and fruit. Excellent coffee.

Unique Quality: Location is great and whilst it's not a cheap hotel, it's good value by Zurich prices. Extremely friendly staff.

Switzerland - What to see - Where to stay BUDGET ?

by wmjunejo

I Plan to visit Switzerland with my family of 4 Adults in end May / June. Friends have advised me to visit Geneva, Zurich and Interlaken.

Can anyone advice me on the following :

What are the best cities in Switzerland ?

How to travel on BUDGET to and within Switzerland ?

What are the central / touristy locations ?

What are the budget accomodations (under CHF 90)?

Any tips ?

Grateful in advance to the ones who will help out plan our vacations better.

You should consider Lucerne as well. And as for a city, Interlaken is not that special. It is just a very good base if you want to go up to some mountains like Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe) or Schilthorn.

You may google for youth hostels and backpackers and check for family rooms. People within Switzerland without car travel by train as there are no buses between major destinations. We have postbuses but they serve (remote) villages and mountain passes where there are no trains.

Check on www.sbb.ch for various train passes. Also check www.myswitzerland.com, the official tourist office website.

I must mean Zermatt. It is not a city but one of the most popular tourist villages in Switzerland. The Matterhorn which you can see there is one of our most famous mountains. If you are into mountain scenery or even better hiking you should definitely go there!

Travel Tips for Zürich

Drve to the city with train...

by Sirod

Drve to the city with train and leave at maintrain station (Hauptbahnhof). Walk Bahnhofstrasse (wonderful and very expensive shops ) in direction to the lake. (When you pace the Paradeplatz - you'll have millions of Gold under your feet ! ) Have a great spot over the see and best: Take your ticket (ZVB ) and drive with the boat to Zürichhorn (or buy a new one for a longer Boatdrive - it's worth !! )take a beer or what else around there and than walk back the right ( east side ) of the lake, called 'Niederndörfli' It is the oldest part of Zurich and you will love it. Old pubs, wonderful middle-age houses, no cars, friendly-crazy people around. Visit the Grossmünster and walk down the stairs to the old Knite - His sword is shaking when a train runs by !)Walk through the very little alleys, very colourful painted houses there. The spot from the bridge directly at the lake, back to Limmat with all the churches (visit the Wasserkirche, there are marvelous windows from Marc Chagall. Best by sundown !! )

Lake Zurich

by Erkmen

When you reached to the end of Bahnhof street now you are in front of the pier of Zurich Lake..

You can see the wonderful mountains surrounding the lake and nice landscape.. In summer times tours around the lake are much adviced.. However when I was there it was winter and unfortunately there was no boat tour..

There are many ports that you can take a tour so just search for the best alternative..

Dog pooh

by yumyum

It's common practise in Zurich and actually all over Switzerland to pick up your dog's pooh. Usually there are Robidogs along the most frequented dog walks with plastic bags. Robidogs are special garbage bins only for dog poohs.

Body Flying

by barbskie

Flying in a wind tunnel is such a big thing to do. Here's a good deal if you want to take off in a unique way or give your friends a treat. It is not my sport but i thought of sharing this for those who's into this kind of activity. Visit their website for more infos. Located outside the city of Zurich, in the municipality of Rümlang.

Uetliberg

by bugalugs

High above Zurich City is the Albis Ridge which is a very wooded area and is the highest point in Zurich standing 2875 feet and overlooks the city.

We caught a train from the railway station. It took about 20 minutes and Uetliberg is the end of the line.

Beautiful views and when we were there it was covered in snow.
