This is a very basic two-star hotel with a great location, just across the bridge from the main station and directly on the square called "Central", which as the name implies is about as central as you can get.

And best of all, the hotel is right next door to the Polybahn, which is a funicular railway going up the hill to the ETH = Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and Zürich University.

I have done a separate Transportation Tip on the Polybahn, but also included some photos of it here that I took from the window of my hotel room.

Pretty Decent Budge Hotel in Zurich's Old Town

I had read rather conflicting reviews about this hotel so I was hesitant to book there. However because it was so well located, just a short walk from the train station when I needed to catch an early train and flight, I decided to give it a chance. I found it to be pretty decent for its price in a city where everything is expensive. In fact of the three hotels I stayed in while in Zurich, it was both the cheapist and the best.

Unique Quality: Hotel Limmathof does have small rooms but they are functional just the same. The staff here was not exactly the most friendly in Switzerland but they were efficient. There is a vegetarian restaurant on location. Another plus about the location is that the hotel is very near alot of good beer halls, restaurant and bars.

Centrally located

Ideally located, the Hotel Limmathof is in the very spot where the romantic old part of town meets the business world of modern Zurich. We found the room clean, with a large bed and a good size bathroom. By American standards the room was small, but average by European standards. We had made our reservation from Moscow and had a bit of difficulty finding the entrance. You have to go through a hallway and then up some stairs to find it. The entrance is seen in the picture.

Unique Quality: Located close to the main train station, it only took a few minutes to get there from our train and once we got to our room we were gifted with a view of the river.

Budget Hotel at a convenient location

Spent 4 nights in Hotel Limmathof.

Basically, it's a cheap B&B at a very central location. The main railway station is just 300m away.

However, it's a quite a souless hotel. However, it's convenient location saved the day.

Can be slightly noisy at night during weekends.

Unique Quality: Breakfast is provided, but a hard boiled egg cost 1.50 euros.
