Good location if you're looking for night life
The location of this IBIS Hotel left me with mixed feelings. It was not far from the centre (one train station only) taking in consideration the price difference to other hotels right in the centre.
On the downside, to me, was the fact that the area around the hotel was very chaotic, with lots of traffic and lots of Bars. This part was only a issue because we stayed during the weekend.
Unique Quality: The hotel itself was as all IBIS, you know what to expect: simple and functional. And at good price.
I booked directly at IBIS web page, well in advance, and got an online promotion.

Like sleeping on the floor
Cheap hotel in Zürich rate, but not in city center and the beds were so uncomfortable. So not recommending for longer than one night.

Ibis - Zuerich City-West
On a business trip to Zurich in 2005 I stayed for two nights in the "Ibis Zurich City-West". The Ibis Hotel is as comfortable and impersonal as every Ibis hotel around the world.
The room prices vary from 100 to 160 CHF (2005). Special weekend rates are available. The buffet style breakfast is usually not included in the room price.

Public Transport from the airport and ideas for one day in Zurich
Hello VT friends and members,
I am going to be in Switzerland on business next week. I decided to arrive in Zurich one day earlier for private explorations of the city.
(1)
Are there any means of public transportation from teh Airport to the city centre which I can use with a VBZ dayticket?
(2)
How can I get to the Ibis Zurich City West Hotel (Schiffbaustrasse 11, near Technopark) by public transport?
(3)
All suggestions for what to do in Zuerich in one day are welcome. I am interested in almost everything, except rainy weather. *winkygrin*

Hi Horscheck,
I travelled to Zurich last year and I stayed at the Ibis hotel technopark too !!
The technopark is well located not too far from the city center (main railway station). You can take the bus. In order to reach the airport it is also very simple probably from the railway station too, so Ibis + bus + train to airport.
What you can do in 1 day, well there is the Christmas markt. Zurich is wonderfully decorated at that time. The city tour really worth it !! and lots of museums and try the famous cheese fondue...

There is no place in Zürich that you can't reach by public transport.
You reach the Technopark easiest if you take the S16 from the airport to the Hardbrücke station (one before main station, HB) and walk from there - it's about 500 m - or you can cut off a bit by taking the bus 33/72 for one stop to Pfingstweidstr.
If you get an S2 from the airport, get out at Wipkingen and take the bus 33 to Pfingstweidstr.
If the next train is an IC or IR, take that to the HB and go from there by tram 4 or 13 to Escher-Wyss-Platz, from there it's another 500 m walk.
Any of this options can be used with a VBZ day tickets for 3 zones (not 2 as usual) since it is one more zone to the airport. It will be cheaper this way than a single ticket plus zone 10 day ticket.
