Rhine Falls & other interesting places
On 21st May Afternoon, we want to do a Geneva City tour with Mont Blanc. Kindly let us know the most convenient mode of covering these places. Should we take a tour to cover these?
We are staying in Niederried Apartments in Interlaken & already visiting Mount Titlis & Jungfrau. What other places should we cover (not peaks) as we are staying for 6 days?
On 27th May, we will be moving to Zurich & would like to see the Rhine Falls & other interesting places. How should we go about this from our Hotel Krone?
Thanks in advance & have a nice day.
Re: Rhine Falls & other interesting places
It is impossible to see both Geneva and "the mont Blanc" in one afternoon. The best thing to do in my opinion would be to opinion would be to just visit Geneva, although there are places that in my opinion are equally pleasant (if not more) destinations. When considering how to get to places take in to account that Niederried is not Interlaken. Niederried has a station on the Interlaken - Luzern line, so that's where you'll be starting your trips. Use www.sbb.ch for planning.
If you really want a flavor of Southwestern Switzerland do the following:
- Take the train from Niederried to Interlaken and then to Zweissimmen, where you change for the MOB train to Montreux. Spend a few hours in Montreux and then take the boat to Lausanne. Return to Interlaken via Bern.
Other places to visit: Bern, Luzern.
- To get to the Rhine Falls again just take the train.
From your post I get the impression that you are not yet fully aware of how comprehensive and easy to use public transport in Switzerland is. The Swiss Railway website (www.sbb.ch) has a trip planner than can plan your trip in detail, taking all modes of transportation in to account. Just enter the address of where you are staying in the "from" field, and wherever you want to go to in the "to" field.
Another convenient tool to plan trips is google maps. Just explort the map, do a search for the Rhine falls. When you've found where you want to go to, do a right click on the destination, choose "route to here", in the routing bar on the left you then just fill in the address of your hotel in the "from" field, and choose "by public transit". You'll get complete instructions on how to get there.
Travel Tips for Zürich
Christmas lights during December
From the end of November for about a month the city of Zürich shows itself in thousands of lights from 4 pm. It may look different as from 2003 because the lights are very old now and need to be replaced.
Basically, it is the Bahnhofstrasse which is the main attraction with some side streets.
Zürich's Altstadt was...
Zürich's Altstadt was developed during the early medieval period and is focused on Lindenhofe, St. Peterskirche, Fraumunster and Grossmunster.
St. Peterskirche was built in the 13th century and is the oldest church in town. It has the largest clock face in Europe – 28 ½ feet (8.7 m) in diameter; the minute hands alone are 12 feet long. Inside, the choir is Romanesque but three-aisle nave is Baroque.
Using Escalators in Zurich
When using Escalators in Zurich or elsewhere in Switzerland it might be usefull to know this:
Stand on the right and walk on the left. People might get a bit angry if they want to pass on the left and you stand in their way.
This doesn't work for narrow Escalators of course....
I favour a squashy bag on wheels Take low healed sandals which can be dressed up for the evening or dressed down with jeans. Sarons can bu useful for day and evening. Everything is available. I always travel with 3 in 1 wipes. Versatile, light and very useful. Always use a suitable factor of suncare when you travel. Everything is available. i love my digital camera! Take at least 1 peice of swimwear when you travel with a pretty sarong which can double as a shawl for cooler evenings. Take universal travel plugs.
gasthauses ausserhalb von Zurch
This particular gasthaus was along the lake outside of Zurich in the direction of Rapperswil. It is hard to find a hotel for under say CHF150 a night, so this was great. Also, a good restaurant, too. I will post the exact details under another hotel tip when I have them.
