Leukerbad
"Our Link to Kandersteg"
Our main reason for going to Leukerbad was the catch the Gemmi Gondola there and walk the Gemmi Pass to Kandersteg, our next stop on our Swiss holiday in summer 2008. The pass is an old mountain route linking the Valais canton with the Bernses Oberland. However there is much more to this delightful mountain village - the ride up itself from Lenk is amazing as it winds up a narrow road higher and higher from the valley below and the views of castles and vineyards are very scenic. Leukerbad is a renowned spa town in the Valais region of Switzerland - the thermal springs have been used without interruption since Roman times. In Leukerbad 8 springs or groups of springs are currently used. Perhaps one day we will return to enjoy these.

Plenty of hiking options - two long hikes are over pass routes to kandersteg and Adleboden - can be shortened with the Gemmibahn though.
