Leukerbad was known in Roman-Helvetian times - supported by numerous finds dating back to the Ancient World. Leukerbad is first mentioned in historical records under the name of "Boez" in 1229. The thermal springs of Leukerbad have been used without interruption since Roman times. In Leukerbad 8 springs or groups of springs are currently used and some 3.9 million litres of thermal water (51° C) per day flow into the private and public baths, the most important spa and wellness resort in the Alps with 22 open air and covered thermal pools.
