The Ellhorn can be orbited by jogging/walking.
It's a very scenic run along the river Rhine, climbing 200meter up to Luzisteig and passing forests, in the mid of the mountains.
Distance: approx. 15km
Altitude: +/-200m

Caution: Use the main road only between Fläsch and Fortress, north of the Fort you better use the small road west of the main road going parallel along the forestline! Jogging shoes
Water
Here at Luzisteig (also called Luziensteig) you have the possibility to see an infantery training camp of the Swiss Army.
Unless most other army's you can walk around in the old, but still used, Fortress and also on the adjoining surroundings.
But make sure, stay on the path, and obey the signs and postings, if the barrier is closed don't cross it.
There are some informations on a website, but only in German.
The Fortress can't be missed if you drive from Maienfeld to Balzers, you will right drive tru....

When I moved to the states, the first trip I wanted to do was to visit places from The Little House On The Prairie story.
Next time I go to Belgium, I will go to Antwerp to visit the church from the Dog of Flanders.
And, when I found out that I'd be in Switzerland, I was jumping with joy! I dreamed about going to Maienfeld ever since I was a little girl.
I knew that the story "Heidi" was a fiction, but that didn't stop me from going there.
Even if you are not the fan of Heidi, you can enjoy walking through the winery and beautiful scenery with Alps.
