Any cheap business hotel in Chernivtsi ?

I want a hotel / apartment with high speed internet, I may stay there for 1 month to ??.
Any suggestion?

I stayed there about a year ago. They didn't have an internet connection, but it's not a problem nowadays - MTS and Kyivstar, the two major mobile operators offer decent 3G wireless internet. It will pay for itself if you stay in Ukraine for one month, especially if you move around.

Travel Tips for Chernivtsi

To chernivtsi from Amsterdam

If you travel from Amsterdam the bets option is to talke the KLM plane, leaving 11:30 from amsterdam, taka a taxi to the Kiev Train station . Then book a 2 or 4 person sleaping place in the night train to Chernivtsi. The train leaves just befor six in the evening. Its a nice but slow journey (cost just a few Euro's). The train enters Chernivtsi 09:50 the next morning). For the way back take the morning plain from Chernivtsi to Kiev leaving around 07:00 in the morning. The KLM flight leaves in the afternoon at 15:50.

Taking the flight towards Chernivtsi is not usefull because it leaves at 14:30, so you can not make it...

Park Shevchenko

Chernivtsi's largest park in the city centre is the Park Shevchenko, which was named Volksgarten during Austrian times.

The park includes a permanent funfair with all sorts of rides, as well as a summer theatre.

Apart from that several statues and fountains can be found in the park.

Directions:
The Park Shevchenko is situated along the Holovna street in south eastern direction somewhere between the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and the main bus terminal.

Soviet war memorials

Besides a few smaller Soviet war memorials, which commemorate the victims of WWII, we spotted two larger ones:

An obelisk style Monument to the unknown soldier stands in the eastern half of the large Soborna Square, which used to be named Austria Square during Austrian times.

A Red Army Tank Monument can be found at the corner of the streets Gargarin and Odeska, about 300 m east of the train station.
On the 15th March 1944 this tank was among the Red Army forces which "liberated Chernivtsi from fascism".

The main university complex is worth a visit. It is an amazing mixture of reminders of Oxford colleges and bizarre Byzantine architecture, in a nice setting on a hill with a park, all in fine brickwork built originallly as the residence of the metropolite of the Bukovina. Designed by the Czech architect Hlavka in the late 19th century.

Ukrainian currency: Hryvnia

Ukraine is a country of cash, so it is always best to pay cash. The local currency is the "Hryvnia" (abbreviation: UAH) which is divided into 100 Kopecks.

In 2004/05 new banknotes were put into circulation, but the various old ones are still valid and in circulation as well. This causes some confusion as you may have 2 or even more variations of the same banknote in your wallet.

In the last years the Ukrainian Hryvnia has been relatively stable. Nevertheless you might see some signs stating prices in US Dollar or Euro.

I usually prefer to get my money from cash points which can be found at almost every corner in Chernivtsi. I really find it amazing how many banks you find in Ukrainian cities.

You can also exchange your local currency at one of the many exchange booths. As their rates might vary, I recommend to campare a few rates and ask how many Hryvnia you really get for your currency. Just make sure that you don't have to pay a commission and that you count the money at the window in front of the person in charge.
