Astoria***

The building of the hotel "Astoria" was build in 1912 - 1913, and for today it is one of the not many hotels which remained its style and primary look.
"Astoriya" hotel is situated just in the center of business and cultural life of our town. Near it you can find the Main Post-office, Town Soviet, National Bank of Ukraine, "Privatbank", "Zemelniy kapital" bank, Opera House, Gorky Theatre and Globa Park.
"Astoriya" hotel is the perfect place for work and rest: wide (20-40 sq.m) light, comfortable singled or doubled rooms luxury rooms and apartments of 60 square meters are always ready for your arrival.
In the yard of "Astoriya" hotel there is a restaurant "Astoriya" the ideal place to spend official and friendly meetings
Hotel has a barber's and a hairdresser's, a dry-cleaning room, a round-the-clock supermarket, a cafe, a health-improvement complex, Finish sauna, jacuzzi a swimming-pool and a billiard room.

Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

In Dnipropetrovsk for Ukraine v England game in October 2009 - Advice please

Hello there,

My friends and I are heading over to the Ukraine in October for the World Cup Qualifying match (Ukraine v England).

We will be spending 2 nights in Dnipro. I'd appreciate any advice on:

1. Which bars are best to drink in.
2. Best nightclubs.
3. Places of interest or trips within Dnipropetrovsk especially WWII & Soviet historical interests.
4. Any places outside of Dnipropetrovsk that are worth visiting.
5. People and places to avoid.

Appreciate any advice given.

Near Dnipropetrovsk there's huge old powerstation Dneproges.The very first powerstation they were building in Sovet Union in 30's(XX century).

One of the best nightclubs is Opera nightclub.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. What else has Dnipropetrovsk to offer? Does it compare in anyway to what Kiev has on offer?

Has Dnipro many nightclubs, etc (not gay bars)

but in Russian.Here you can see words like клуб(club),ночной клуб(night club),кафе(cafe) and phone numbers.Of course not to many people could speak English in Ukraine.But if you'll try to ask at reception at your hotel it is good idea.

Travel Tips for Dnipropetrovsk

What will it cost you in Dnepr

a nice one or two bedroom "euro" furnished apartment with washer, microwave, etc. in or close to downtown will cost you around $500 per months, further from the downtown $300-400. Euro means renovated to meet Euro standarts, like having vacum-filled windows, but you must see an apartment before you rent, interpretation of "Euro" varies. Food price comparable to US. Shuttle "marshrutka" mini-buses will take you anywhere for 2 grivna (40 cents) There're also trolleys and subway, 1 grivna for a ride. Life is getting pricier by leaps and bounds. All ATMs are safe to use. Daily limit around $300 per day and some ATMs will give you in grivnas only. They will charge you a user fee around $3, then your bank will hit you with a $9 fine for using a foreign ATM. Bring some cash with you to save on those transactions. Go to Ozerka farmer market to buy fresh produce, you will love it, and it taste better than in your local Whole Food.

In Drepropetrosk a lot of huge metallurgical plants, that of couse damage the nature, river, air. A lot of dirty things are coming back to water, so better dont swim in river... Most well known plant is Petrovka, was built 120 years ago, and renewed after war.

ATMs

ATM, off the beaten path.

Now there is a plenty of ATMs in the center. But most of time you either see the empty one or with queue.
Both can disappoint a usual tourist.
But experienced tourist knows about the hidden places with ATMs ready for service.
So, my clues:
- "Astoria" supermarket (near the "Astoria" hotel), K.Marks, 64. Open: 8am - 9pm. Turn to the right when you enter by the right enrance.
- "Ukraina" supermarket (very center), K.Marks, 54, Open: 7am-9pm. Go forward till the food department. Right before turnstile entrance.
- "Grand Plaza" shop center (near "Ukraina" hotel) K.Marksa, 67. Open: 7am-9pm. If you enter to "Grand Plaza" from K.Marks side - go and check the right side.
- Barrikadnaya, 5/7. Open: 0-24. Go by K.Marks from center opposite to railway direction. Turn to the left at Barrikadnaya St. and check for the ATM on the left side in 50m.
Good ATMing!

P.S. all these ATMs allow to cash up Grivna and $$$.

Embankments, Islands & Parks

So much to see and do. Walk the river embankment. Visit Monastery Island. Visit the parks. Visit the various museums and places of cultural and historical interest. Visit the markets and shops. Although not recognised as a tourist destination, it should be. River cruises. Etc. My fondest memory of Dnepropetrovsk? The first night I met my wife (as she is now) and our walk up Karl Marx Boulevard down onto The River Embankment.
What do I miss most when I am away from the city? Everything. The public transport system. The mighty river. The centre, which is like walking the main street of any European cosmopolitan city centre. The parks. My friends and relatives.

It's a great city! It's a big city! You must see a river Dnipro! You will see aamazing picture when you crossing the river on the bridge. There are many seesights. The Monastyrsky ostriv (Monachal Isle)!Its Edem for youth! There are ropeway over river from Isle !WOW! There are many other beautiful things in Dnipropetrovsk! First off all is a POWER!!! You simply must visit Dnipropetrovsk!
