Great location, but average in general hotel!

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 1, 2013

This is a very centrally located 3-star big hotel of an old Soviet style, but having a relatively good lobby and with small but still freshly furnished/decorated rooms. The room was warm and the sleep quality of the bed was above average. The parking is a little bit away so you have to walk 5-10 min to get from your car to the hotel. The hotel accepts payments in cash and all major debit/credit cards. There is free Wi-Fi with good signal in all the rooms and the lobby of the hotel. The price per person of 675 UAH (around 65 EUR) per comfort room with a breakfast on a block table included (served in the restaurant of the hotel from 7:00 till 11:00 a.m.) is average for Donetsk, so I would recommend the Central hotel for anyone who is looking for a good and not very expensive hotel in the centre of the city.

Unique Quality: The very central location of the hotel, the kind staff

Main Street Hotel

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

I did not stay at this hotel and only used its services: the restaurant, the currency exchange.
The lobby is great!

Unique Quality: The hotel is located in the Old Town, in the main street called Artem Street.
The hotel offers a lot of services such as car rent, limousine service, meeting at the airport/railway station, excursions, business trips, etc.

There are several bars and restaurants in the building of the hotel.

Out of the 96 rooms at their disposal they offer different kinds of rooms:
Comfort (a single room);
Twin (a double room);
Business (single with two rooms);
De Luxe (improved single-two room);
Luxe (single-two room in two levels with Jacuzzi.

The prices vary from 675 UAH to 2,500 UAH.

Directions: Opposite the Donetsk Railways head office

Nothing special at all

The first issue I had was re the price. I looked on a price comparison aggregator for hotels in Donetsk. I didn't want to make the booking online from a network I was less than convinced of the security of. I thus rang the hotel directly to make a booking and was quoted 92 dollars in total for 2 nights. I agreed to this as seemed a good deal. This isn't what I was asked to pay when I arrived, indeed the price was higher than what was offered on the comparison site. I made this point with the receptionist who spoke excellent English but I quickly conceded on the account of being exhausted.

Non smoking rooms are on the 8th floor. That could be an issue for some people in that the lifts only go to the 7th floor.

The room is reasonably clean, water in the shower is hot. TV is all in Ukranian or Russian channels, no Western channels. Wifi seems to work fine and is free in all rooms.

Breakfast is from a short menu with 5 different set deals on there all of which were underwhelming none of which appealed to me. I asked for some cereal and some bread. The cereal was a small portion and the bread was a total of 1 small slice cut in 1/2.

Location is central on the main drag.

Unique Quality: Next time I'd try somewhere else. Someone in Donetsk I spoke with made a suggestion of the Art Liverpool Hotel in Donetsk.

Great Location--Great Staff

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The staff was helpful and friendly. (They put out a small American Flag on the check-in desk when we arrived!) The rooms were spotless and the views of the city were nice. The morning breakfast, which was included with the stay, was nice with a good variety. The Internet room had 2 computers. The elevators were large and fast. The lobby had a money machine and plenty of seating. I would stay at the Hotel Central again--gladly.

Unique Quality: Next door to the Hotel was the Shynok Restaurant. Great Ukrainian food in a fun atmosphere. We enjoyed Donetsk. The spring is beautiful with flowers everywhere.

Directions: City Center on Artema Street (Main Drive with Bus in front)

This hotel was better than I expected. I spent 8 nights here and I really dont have any complaints. The staff were very professional and almost all spoke excellent English. The food in the restaurant was quite good and the waitors were even better. They always made sure you had everything you needed. The room was more than adequate. Nothing fancy but very comfortable. Overall I had a nice time.

Directions: In the middle of the city. Just down the street from Lenin Square.
