Good location
Stayed 10 nights in September 2008. The location is perfect, close to Independent square, restaurants and bars.
The service is good, the rooms, furnature, etc are outdated but clean.
For me it was strange that as hotelguest you'll have to pay for using the fitness center.

Ordered aircondition was a fan!!!
Stayed there on July 2007 five nights. Very unpolite service at the reception but their english was understable. Four star hotel? One can drop two or three stars immediately. The outfit of the hotel promises four stars but rooms are very bargain, hot and noisy. Ordered aircondition was a fan!!! The Breakfast restaurant on 2nd floor was ok and service was mainly friendly.

One of the top 2 or 3 for Kyiv
A single room in October 2006 cost around £63 per night B&B / about US$120 at current rate of exchange.
Rooms were OK - TV and bottled water provided (tap water is not potable) furniture looked dated and my shower room suite did not match.
However, this is what passes for four star in Kyiv, so you do not want to think about going anywhere cheaper!
Breakfast was plentiful but toast not available, fruit ance cerals with tea and coffe for me
Unique Quality: Good location, hotel bar selling a large beer at 10 UAH / £1 / US$1.90 means that even hotel prices are cheap. AS I say, an "acceptable" hotel in Kyiv is a luxury.

dnipro hotel, the good,bad and the ugly!!
The hotel Dnipro is certainly a unique place. i have never stayed in a hotel quite like it. i thought i had hit the jackpot when i arrived as the front reception area looks quite magnificent however sadly my first impressions did not last too long.
checking in was more difficult thanit should have been. the receptionists spoke mediocre english and appeared very agitated at the most simple request. the hotel is under refurbishment at the moment and i think it will be like this probably for at least another couple of years as i had been told about the work 9 months ago and they have only done the top four floors and the hotel i think has at least 12 floors!!
my room i dont think had been done up in years as it really was a very depressing room, i figured i would only be sleeping there so wasn't too bothered although i did ask if i could get my room changed for a refurbished room and after much looks of annoyance from the staff at hte front desk i was told the hotel was fully booked and a room change was impossible before the receptionist left without as much as a smile.
the staff rudeness continued into breakfast the next morning. the Dnipro boasts that it has the biggest breakfast buffett in the whole of kiev. i dont know if that is true but i can tell you they certainly have the coldest breakfast bufett in ukraine!! nothing was even remotely warm so if cold bacon and veg if your thing you will love it. i asked the chef to cook me up an ommelette for the rest of my stay. she wasn't very pleased by this and told me to sit down. thinking someone would take it over to me i waited for 5 mins and no sign of it so after 10 mins i went over to see what was going on. she had cooked my ommelette but had left it sitting on the table next to her so it was lovely and cold when i got it!!! fantastic stuff.
i did go up to have a look at the refurbished floors and they did look a thousand times better tha the older floors so if you do reserve a room here make sure you book a room on the top4 floors.
Unique Quality: the hotel has a leasure centre which is a bit small but very nice all the same. it also has a casino and a strip club. i went into the casino to have a look and it seemed perfectly normal so i played a few hands of blackjack. i was the only one on thre table so i was told i must play with two hands which made me loose my money twice as fast. the hotel also has security boxes for rent for about a dollar a day which is fine. the hotel also has 24hr room service available however the service is appalling. it took over 1hr for me to receive a ham and cheese sandwich with hot chips except they sent me potato crisps instead of chips. the security gaurds also pester you every single night for you to hire a prostitute that they wil arrange for you.
i most definately would not recommend anyone to stay at the hotel Dnipro.

Dnipro - bad room, great staff
Good location - right by the main square. I booked on a cheap hotel web sight and we were given the less glamerous rooms on the 5th floor. Hotel was being renovated at the time but the staff were very helpful and dont forget to visit the barmen in the 24 hour Munich bar - we kept him amused intil 7am. Good people, room was shabby but a great location.
Unique Quality: Man in reception was funny, Munich bar is great to watch the sunrise :)

Should be good
I didn't stay there but a former diplomat i know. He said taht the Hotel could need a little improvement but is probably sill one of the best ones at place (and probably one of the most expensive ones)

Four star hotel worth to stay at
One of the advantages of this hotel is that you have the perfect view to the river and the city especially when you live on the 12th floor. Several highest floors were recently renovated.
Unique Quality: If you prefer luxury I woud recommend to book the room on 11-12th floors. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant is included in the price. And you can choose from variety of dishes, fruits, salads. And the pianist will be sometime playing for you. You can also visit wellness center with the swimming pool in the hotel.
There are two bars and the restaurant, my friends gave the name sky-bar to the bar on the 12th floor.

Go For The Best
This hotel was great (not brilliant) but great for the Ukraine standard. THe added bonus is that it is joined to the local strip bar, so you can get a lap dance and get plastered and go straight to bed (alone).
The hotel is in the heart of the whole city which makes it ideal.

It's ok indeed. Good balance of price and comfort. By the way, if you'll stay in Kyiv through October 11, the Ukrainian football side will be playing Scotland.

It is expencive hotel, but hotel situated in nice place. It is in center of Kiev and from window you can see the Dnipro river.

Hotel Dnipro is under the reconstraction now. Its still open and working, but quite messy inside.
If prices r not too high for u, u may like it. Location is a good.

thankyou caprice. do you know how long the building work is going on for? do you have any suggestions on activities to do in kiev? i am going to be there for 2 days on my own whilst i wait for my friend to arrive from scotland. places to go and see and perhaps any evening places to hang out in like restraunts and bars would be good.
