Ukraine is a bilingual country. People speak both Russian and Ukrainian - sometimes in the same sentence. Ukrainien has the same relationship to Russian that Spanish has to Italian: its related, but complitely distinct. Its also softer and gentler-sounding. The country's Russified east speaks mostly Russian, and its nationalist west speaks mostly Ukrainian. Kiev, in the center of the country, usually speaks Russian, but street signs and advertising are usually in Ukrainian. Of'course, most visitors to Ukraine will speak english, which is common enough among kiev's young people. A few words of guide-book ukrainian or russian will go a long way with flattered natives. German is sometimes spoken among older residents

St. Alexander Catholic Church
by OlenaKyiv
It is worth to take your time and spend some time inside of St. Alexander Roman-Catholic church. There were some views that its builders' were not much successful in creating reach decor. I think maybe there is a part of truth; however, I think that simplicity of the church draws attention and high spirits. A lot of light coming from windows gives a thought of purity.
