A town's garden

My first impression, at the time of my visit of Kiev in July 2002, is that this city seems have been constructed in a garden.
Everywhere the inhabitants can take advantage of parks and public gardens, and there is a beautiful Botanical garden that dominates the Dniepr, and the outskirts.
In front of the Express hotel, where I lodged, be also a botanical garden, that seems to be able to visit himself, and that welcomes collections impressive of plants.
The avenues, very large, are edged many trees (a lot of poplars - populus italicus) and the walk is there very pleasant. The photo to been taken since the balcony of my hotel room.
Independence square in the night

Before on the place of monument from photo there was a monument of Lenin (I think everyone knows who he was). Now on the peak of new one lady stays. What does new monument mean? As I know this Lady symbolizes Ukraine. It is pomposity monument, but not so close to true Ukrainian culture I think.
Odd house

There are very numerous odd houses in the historic center of Kiev. Where they escaped the Nazi bombardments of World War II.
This sublime house is located on Mel'nykova boulevard, close to the station of Luklanivs'ka subway, front of the Golden Gate.
The windows are extremely worked, and the whole is decorated of numerous sculptures.
Farther, another house is charged of decorations, Atlantes and Caryatid supporting the balconies and surrounding the portal of entry.
For the French tourists, it is not very far from the embassy of France.

The "Odd house" on you picture is LIEPTZIG Hotel which is situated on the corner of Volodimirska street and Proreznaya, just across Golden Gates.
The arch-monument of Friendship

The Friendship Arch located in Kreshchatiy Park up from Eauropean Square. It was opened in 1982 and is the symbol of union between Ukraine and Russia that was signed by Bogdan Khmelnickiy and Russian ambassador in 1654 during event called Pereyaslavskaya Rada.
Sculptor Skoblikov, architacters Ivanov, Mirgorodskiy and Sidorov.
It is fun during spring and summer here, because there are performances on weekends and holidays on open stage. On 25 of May it is the day of frontier guards. This date is old one from Soviet Union and now it is different for Ukrainian defenders of boarders. But people (as a rule men who served in SU Army) still gather on this area and celebrate their holiday. 4 years ago I took a part in organization this celebration and it was really fun (from author - I am not a military woman in present and never was). There was true military “field-kitchen” (“traveling kitchen”) and we ate porridge and drank tea imagine ourselves being in the field on military trainings. Frankly speaking we were very hungry that day and porridge seemed to us very delicious :-).
Monument to Olga

This is photo of monument of Olga. In 1920s the monument was stolen by the communists and for a long time was considered to be lost. But in 1995 during the reconstruction of the Mykhailivska Square it was discovered buried under the road. It was installed once again in its original spot. Watching this monument I recall history of Ukraine which says that Olga was the first queen (knyaginya of Rus) and she was really strict lady. Killing of representetives from drevlyan showed this.
