I would recommend visiting the Kreshchatyk on a sunday because they close the main road and it becomes a pedestrian area. There is entertainment of all sorts until late in the evening. There are many good restaurants and bars in or just off the main thoroughfare. The atmosphere seemed to be vibrant during the sunday closing of the main road with many people just walking and talking or enjoying themselves.

Andreevsky Spusk on Andreevskaya Street.
Picturesque old street of the old Kiev.
I liked it!
Do not miss the Doll Museum and the UNIQUE Museum of One Street (all the museum is based on things found in Andreevskaya street's houses) - even the government document addressed to brothel's owners how to run and to keep the prostitutes houses!
Golden gate
by IngaA
Golden Gate The ancient main entrane to the towm, in period of Kievan Rus. Was covered with the gold.
There is a story related with this place.
During the mongolian long siege of Kyiv, among the defenders there was a sharp-shooter archer Michalka (or Mykhailyk). His arrows were always reaching the goals and he killed a lot of mongolians.
Then, mongolian khan (governor) Batiy sent a letter to Kievans telling that he will leave them alive if they give Michalka away. They were afraid of mongolian troops and agreed.
Then Mikhalka, disappointed, told them : ' Kievans, your decision is bad. If you didn't agree to give me up, Batiy would never conquest Kyiv' (and he was right because in reality mongolians destroyed completely the city).
He told the golden gate on his sword and went away.
Later, aftern the end of mongolian conquest, polish king Boleslaw the Brave passed to Kyiv also through the Golden Gate.
The Dnipro Embankment
by hunterV
Driving and walking along this busy embankment that is always full of traffic and people.
You can just drive along the embankment enjoying the huge speed or walk visiting the nearby cafes and restaurants such as "Poseidon" or "River Palace" if you are tired or thirsty.
The views are spectacular, especially when the weather is fine.
There is an area called Venice Bay.
It is located on the left bank of the Dnipro opposite the Cave Monastery, three kilometers down the River Terminal. The bay is located on the territory of Hydropark. It is one kilometer long. It is located perpendicular to the river.
Before 1917 the area was called Venice.
St.-Volodymyr's Cathedral
by Klod5
St-Vladimir (Volodymyr) Cathedral was build that 1862 to 1886.
Murial paintings in St-Vladimir (Volodymyr) Cathedral were executed by V? Vasnetsov, M. Nesterov, M. Vrubel, M. Pymonenko and V. Kotarbinsky under the guidance of professor A.V. Prakhov in 1885-1896. In 1946-1952 the murals were restaured. There is not only one part of the walls of the cathedral that is not decorated. It is indeed very impressive, to see all this beauty, all this however, and all these decorations. Besides, every time that you enter in a religious building, the singing of the supporters, (of old babouchka that passes there their day, to hold the building in an infinite cleanliness) transport you in another world, more spiritual...
