This is the oldest hotel in Lviv. It was built in 1901 in the Neo-Renaissance style. Seems to be nice from outside but, unfortunatelly, it is not from inside. I would rather not recommend it. It is expensive and the price is not suitable for the quality. To start with, I got `first class` room as I was told that there are no more vacancies. It occured when I arrived that the hotel is almost empty. Firstly, there was cold in my room as the floor and the ceiling are far from each other. I asked for the additional heating but I was told that it is not allowed to use it in hotel rooms. What is more, they were trying to encourage me that my room as a `first class` room is the hotest in the hotel. Apparently, I was very cold! Secondly, it was something odd with hot water. You must open the tap and let the water run for about 15 minutes to have it warm! There will be no hot water even after 30 minutes. Moreover, you need to pay extra for brekfast. I am able to do it unless I get something what is impossible to eat. Brekfast was very poor and served differently each day. It depended on who was a waiter at the time and wheather he/she was more or less lazy.
What reffers to the facilities they where ok but recalled Soviet style. For example pieces of ferniture or TV set, and even towels, were old and in my opinion should be changed. The reception is not open 24 hours. There is a portier down but you cannot pay for the room in the early morning as there is no reception staff. They accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard). | | | | Hotel George (Hotel Zorz): Good Choice | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Hotel George was built in 1901 by Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. From the balkony of that hotel the famous Polish singer Jan Kiepura was singing for the poeple of Lwow (lviv). When Lviv was a Polish city, there were no famous persons and notables that do not visited, drink, took part of single combats, eat or meeting with other famous persons in George Hotel. The choice of the artists, oficers, politicians, notables, actors, celebrities of that time was easy- if you are in Warsaw, you have to go to "Adria". If you were in Lwow (Lviv) you were obliged to show in George Hotel (recently Intourist property....). If you stay in Lviv for a few days you should take a room in Hotel George just because of the atmosphere of that place, splendid interiors, history and the location of that place. If you have only couple of hours in Lviv, just go to the restaurant in Hotel George and order a coffee. --------------------- Prices: De Luxe double 92 USD single 88 USD Semi De Luxe double 82 USD single 77 USD 1-st class double 72 USD single 68 USD 2-nd class double 32 USD single 28 USD ----------------------- If you would be lucky you will get the room with the view on Mickiewicz Monument :) Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Mickiewicz sq.1Phone: 38 (0322)725952,(0322)974255Website: http://georgehotel.hypermart.net/enquire.htm Other Contact: fax 38 (0322)971144

 | | | | George: Hotel George | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
On both our trips in 2007 and 2008 we stayed in the Hotel George. The Neo-Renaissance style building from 1901 is one of the oldest hotels in the Ukraine. With its beautiful lobby area and the grand staircase with stained windows it is a sight in itself and I always felt set back in time when walking through the long corridors. The rooms have high ceilings and two doors. The furniture is definitely not the newest, but this adds to the special charm of the hotel. Their 72 rooms come in different categories from De Luxe to Tourist Class. We stayed in a Tourist Class double room, which cost 220 UAH and included breakfast. Tourist Class means that you have a washbasin in your room, but shower and toilet have to be shared on the corridor. Just note that some of the shared toilets are squat toilets, but you have to know that on the 4th floor all toilets are proper toilets. I really couldn't complain about cleanness, also towels were usually changed daily. The breakfast is a set one with two courses, which are served in style by some lovely Ukrainian ladies. The staff were English speaking and very friendly. There was always a sort of guard in the lobby. We booked our room by e-mail, but on our second trip we even arrived one day earlier than expected and also got a room on short notice.
