Much has changed traveling to this part of the world in the last 20 years since our 1st trip to Ukraine, it's no longer necessary to change money on the black market, bring your own supply of food or leave tips for the maids with lipstick, nylons or American cigarettes. No one is interested in buying your blue jeans or tennis shoes. I'd even argue that the quality of the toilet paper, at least at our hotel and the couple of restaurants where I used the WC, is good enough that you don't need to lug that with you anymore. I even drank water out of the tap at our hotel and have lived to tell the tale.
Lviv TV Tower
by hunterV
The TV tower in Lviv is 200 meters high. It was erected in 1957.
It stands on High Castle hill. We passed it on the way to the observation platform.
Here are some wonderful views from the High Castle.
We walked along the winding road up the hill in spite of the rainy weather and those magnificent views were our reward!
My Guidebooks
by hunterV
It was very useful to take a look at some of the guidebooks.
I bought one in Russian and took one in English - "Lviv in Your Pocket" - that was available at "George" hotel where my friends stayed.
I understood that any tour was possible with "Lviv in Your Pocket".
It contains all the necesary information and phone numbers for reservations.
Also, I bought a panorama map of Lviv (pictured here) and it was very useful for orientation in this huge city. many fond memories...It's hard to enumerate all of them...
Statue of Our Lady
by bugulma
In previous times here were 2 arms of Poltava River and there was an island where the statue was placed. Then the river arms were hidden underground. In Soviet times the statue was destroyed but then re-placed again. Now you can see the praying people just in front of the statue, in the street.
Ploshad Ryinok. House of Venice
by bugulma
The most interesting building on southern part of Ploshad Ryinok is House of Venice merchants. It was built in XVI century. It was the residence of the merchants of Venice Republic who came to Lviv. Above the gate you can see the lion with wings, the symbol of Venice.
