Getting to Lviv from Rzeszow and from Lviv to Warszawa
by ronaldpk
What is the easiest way to get from Rzeszow to Lviv - taking a bus to Przemysl and then crossing the border on foot and taking a marshrutka?
What about the inward journey - is there a night train from Lviv to Warszawa?
I will be travelling to Lviv on 16th April and returning to Poland on 18th in the evening.

If I were you I would ask in Ukraina forum in Turystyka section on gazeta.pl. But first of all why not to check PKP page for Warszawa-Lviv connetions?

My friend is joining me from Warszawa when I land in Rzeszow. I find PKS websites very confusing and not up-to-date and therefore wanted to seek an advice from those who had a similar itinerary.
By the way, can you recommend a nice one-day sightseeing tour around Lviv (Zhovkva,Zolochiv, Podhirce, the so-called "Golden Horseshoe"). I found some Ukrainian websites with exorbitant prices. I'm sure that you can find a pretty affordable tour.
Yes, there are many postings on Gazeta Wyborcza but thought that since this site is devoted to tourism I would get more info.
Dzieki!

It has been few years since I was in Ukraine. I only travel independently. PKP (not PKS) should be reliable. And also you can call and ask PKS stations yourself.

Travel Tips for Lviv
Still a bit soviet :)
by arantha
Lviv (as other Ukrainian cities, I guess) is still a bit soviet. Here and there you can still find some relics of the former era: shop-windows, statues, an old circus building, posters in the immortal socrealistic style... It all gives the city a characteristic charm and I must admit I do enjoy it! It reminds me of my childhood! ;)
Ten years ago the same things you were able to find in Poland, but when the communist era was over, it was all destroyed. However in Ukraine it has remained up till now and you can still see it here and there. I'm a bit sentimental, it brings tears to my eyes... ;)
City- bridge
by Tanechka
Geographically and historically Lviv play an important part in intercommunications between Westrn and Eastern Europe. As a result the architecture of the city is mostely European, inhabitants are mostely Ukranians, but Poles, Jews, Russians, Germans , Czechs are also presented.
TARAS SHEVCHENKO 1814 - 1861
by LoriPori
Taras Shevchenko (1841 - 1861) was a Ukrainian Poet, artist and humanist. He also made many masterpieces as a painter and an illustrator.His works and life are revered by Ukrainians and his impact on Ukrainian literature is immense. Taras Shevchenko is pictured on the current 100 hryvnia banknote. There is a monument to him and the sculpture "Wave of National Revival" located on Svobody Prospekt. It's a local favourite meeting place.
Dominican Cathedral of Lord Body
by bugulma
There was a gothic church here, where, by the way, the Russian Tsar Peter I the Great in 1707 signed union documents with Poland against Sweden in Northern War 1700-1721. In 1745-1792 the cathedral was re-built by De Vitte architect in baroque style. Some later there was restoration works by Vessinger architect. Besides, the sculptures inside were added by him. In 1865 Zakharevich architect built the bell tower. In Soviet times in the cathedral the museum of atheism worked.
See You at the Fountain!
by hunterV
There are four fountains with sculptures representing mythological figures around Market Square:
- on the south-western side –
Neptune fountain;
- on the north-western side –
Amphitrite fountain;
- on the north-eastern side -
Adonis fountain;
- on the south-eastern side -
Diana fountain.
The fountain figures were made by Hartman Witwer (1774-1825) out of limestone.
They embody the allegory of earth (the sculptures of Diana and Adonis) and water (the sculptures of Neptune and Amphitrite).
The Market Square figures were created between 1810 and 1814.
These fountains are a good meeting point for people, especially for the first-time visitors of Lviv.
One of the first pictures of the entire group of VT Meeting participants was made in front of Amphitrite fountain.
