In Soviet times there were two twins-hotels on the Black Sea; in Sochi ("Zhemchuzhina-Intourist") and in Yalta-Massandra ("Yalta-Intourist"). There was no possibility to get accommodation there. The reason was in the second name "Intourist" which meant for foreign tourists. Now the situation has cardinally changed. First: you can come there if you have money (no matter from where you came). Second: Tourist from Russia became foreigners!
We took an advantage of this situation and booked the hotel from Moscow and were very pleased of being there.
Yalta Hotel Complex is situated on the Southern Coast of the Crimea in Massandra Park, laid out in XIX-th century.
The largest in the Crimea the "Yalta" hotel was built in 1970th on the design of the architects Polyansky and Moshkunova. It represents a 17-storeyed building reminding a giant ocean liner “Titanic” . It dominates the panorama when you approach Yalta from the east. It’s seen from everywhere.
The building is situated on 3 terraces, with both sides overlooking the sea, is distinguished by its clear plastics, rhythmic repetition of horizontal lines of balconies. Restaurants and swimming-pools adjoin the main building. The hotel can accommodate up more then 2,500 people. The facades and interiors are originally designed. There are ten dining-rooms and one conference hall for symposiums. Painters with Zurab Tsereteli at the head took part in designing.
