Not satisfied, not worthy the money
I have been to this hotel several times (last time beginning of May 2009) and I know already why it's not part of the Kempinski Hotels anymore. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the port of Odessa and looks great from outside, but nothing than average inside and average only if we speak about semi-lux numbers and higher standard (see the attached photos)! The window/terrace view from some of the rooms is really fantastic - you can see how beautiful the Black sea is. The prices are really too high for the quality offered, the breakfast is not bad - it's included in the price and you can have it from 7:00 till 11:00 am in the Black Pearl restaurant, but if you come after 10:00 you will see a lot of empty plates and the personnel is not bothering to fill them up.
What I found really interesting is that it was advertised that the fitness center and the swimming pool are free for guests of the hotel, but it turned out that meanwhile someone is renting them already and you have to pay for using them... Parking for guests is also paid, you better ask at the reception in advance, because you will pay more at the spot later when leaving.

Apartments or Hotels
Odessa Apartments or Hotels is the question that frequently comes up when traveling to that area of the world. Having personally stayed at both a number of times in Odessa and other Ukrainian (and other eastern european destinations) I can confidently conclude that apartment is a better option for those looking to save on costs and gain privacy. On my first trip to Odessa I stayed that Hotel Chornoe more (black sea) and had a room for close to $100 that provided no privacy and was in fairely ruined shape. On that trip I ran into ads that advertised private apartments that were fully furnished and all central so I decided to give them a chance. Since then, I have been to Odessa 4 times staying at private apartments each time. I personally use http://www.odessaapts.com for apartments but of course other options include going to the trian station and trying to convince babushkas to give you an apartment for even less. However, I personally have never done that as a number of horror stories circulate about tourists returning to empty apartments or flats being very far from the center (advertised as in the center).
Unique Quality: Through http://www.odessaapts.com I usually rent a 1 bedroom apartment on Deribasovskaya street for $70 per night.

The hotel is located just behind the sea terminal and can be seen from Maritime Boulevard (Primorsky Boulevard)..
Unique Quality: Dedicated on April 2, 2001 as "Kempinski" Hotel;
it has 19 floors, from $120 single, $145 double;
there are suites, superior rooms, grand view rooms,. harbor suites, presidential suite;
all conveniences, large guest room safe; separate power plant, large 25 m indoor pool, sauna, steam bath, massage center, fitness center, aerobics room, billiards ,
“The Black Pearl” restaurant with Japanese cuisine;
panorama sky lounge,
terrace 19th floor, casino and nightclub and what not.

Hotel with in-room internet
I'm looking for a centrally located hotel in Odessa, with a reasonably fast in-room internet connection, preferably wireless. This doesn't seem to be too easy to find - so far the Frapolli Hotel seems like the best choice, but has anyone got any other suggestions....?

yes, we are primarily looking for a hotel. (With an internet connection, because one of us will have to work a bit while we're in Odessa)

Although, I suggest an apartment, the Frappoli is very nicely located on DeRibossky St. Just walked by it a couple of weeks ago. I'm understanding you about the internet. I left my wireless broadband at home and used dial up in Odessa. The first week, the phone lines were band and couldn't connect at all. Then connected at 48k. Better than not having it.
But if you are considering changing locations of hotels, re-consider. DeRibaskaya St is where to be.
