Back Of Keppoch: Campsite After Campsite.....

We had tried to book into a campsite in this area but they were all full on the dates we had available. In the end, I was quite glad. When we looked at these sites, they wqere really heaving and no way would there have been any peace and quiet!

Unique Quality: These sites are all located on or very close to beuatiful, clean sandy beaches. Most are ideal for launching small boats and fare airly safe for children to scramble about on.

The campsites ranged in price from £15 upwards, and for not a great deal of facilities.

  • Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Cnoc Na Faire Hotel: Oasis of Calm in Scottish Highlands

Cnoc Na Faire Hotel is a small privately owned 4 star hotel situated near to the village of Arisaig (Back of Keppoch) on the 'Road to the Isles'. The accomodation is first class with tastefully decorated en suite rooms, each named after a Scottish Island. The owners David and Jenny are very friendly and guests are made to feel at home from the moment they arrive. There is a small restaurant within the hotel which is superb and the hotel bar is popular. There is occasional live music and the locals are quick to take up the opportunity to trip the light fantastic to traditional music. There is 24 hour room service available and guests are even invited to help themselves to a dram of whisky prior to going to bed. The hotel is situated in a stunning setting and has outside tables for Summer dining / drinking. Whilst the hotel is deservedly rated at 4 star, it is not at all stuffy in atmosphere and is a shining example of what good Scottish accomodation is all about. Ten out of ten and highly recommended as a base to recharge the batteries.

Unique Quality: The hotel is literally within a stones throw of powder white beaches and overlooks the small Isles of Eigg Rhum Muck and Canna. The Isle of Skye also forms part of the panorama. Truly breathtaking. As if all this wasn't enough the beautiful Scottish mountains are right behind the hotel. The famous white sands of Morar and Camusdarroch beach which featured in the film Local Hero are minutes away as is beautiful Loch Morar. The hotel restaurant specialises in local seafood and we saw the hand dived scallops being delivered by divers with the water dripping from the sack. One hour later we had a meal to die for.The restaurant caters for all tastes including vegetarian.
