Wigtown Sands: Not The Most Peaceful of Layby's

Our overnight stop enroute to Garlieston was a decent sized layby, looking out over Wigtown Sands. Only problem was the incessant traffic noise, after all, this was the major route to Stranraer where ferries arrive and leave at all hours.

We spent the afternoon watching the tide recede, uncovering the fishing nets strung across the river Cree that flowed immediately past us in the bay. As the sun went down, we were rewarded with a spectacular show of colours, I don't think I have seen such a fantastic sunset before in UK.As the sun disappeared, it was replaced with a new moon shining over Wigtown.

If the traffic noise wasn't enough to contend with, we had the added noise of lorries pulling up throughout the night, their engines starting up on a timeswitch every half hour or so to keep their refridgeration units cold. It was not a good night's sleep for me, needless to say, Nick being able to sleep through most things, he fared better than me!

I certainly wouldn't choose to sleep here again but then if we hadn't, we wouldn't have experienced the wonderful sunset!! Pros and cons.....
