Mitchum's Campsite: Camping with a sea view
We did a little bit of research before picking our campsite. What sold this one for us was that in the Summer they open a beach view site.
I phoned up on the day of our arrival; they only take tents smaller than 3 man (also take VW sized campervans too) and had spaces free.
We arrived, checked in and were shown to our spot, it's only a small campsite so we had to pitch in the front half and park in the half towards the road. This was in only half a pitch in case more people wanted to stay. I can imagine it would get very full in nice weather weekends. We stayed a Tues - Thurs August 2010.
The site also hires wet suites, surf and body boards, they can also help with surfing tuition.
There were seperate cold showers to wash wet suits, a toilet block and shower block (always very clean and well stocked, showers were of the push button variety so no way to control the temperature but when I had one it was lovely and warm).
There were outdoor sinks for washing dishes, supplied with washing up bowls, brushes and washing up liquid. Also recycling bins and bricks for BBQ's.
In the adjacent field was a coffee shop trailer selling paninis too. It was most welcome in the morning as it was quite windy to boil a kettle of water on our burner.
The downside? You have to pay not just for the number of adults camping but also to park your car which we found very unusual. Per person camping was £13 per night, our two night stay came to £58 so just to park was £6 for the two nights.
Unique Quality: A 10 minute walk out left from the campsite to the beach, if you turn right you can get down on to the rocky side of a beach.
15 mins walk into Croyde centre.
If you live in a city the views of the stars at night are amazing as there isn't much light polution.
The view of the photo on their website homepage was the view we had from our pitch, a bit zoomed in.
They are not a family campsite and don't take pets (a good thing in our opinion)

B&B's, Holiday Parks and Self-catering: In Addition To Campsites...
...there's a whole range of other options with prices to suit most budgets.
For a family-friendly holiday park the main one seems to be the Parkdean-owned Ruda where a week in a 3-bed luxury caravan, minutes walk from the beach, starts at about 280 pounds.
There's also a great range of self-catering cottages and lodges in the area, including some character village properties and some stunningly-located modern places pretty much on the seafront. For a taster try Choice Cottages
And of course, last but not least, there are many friendly Bed and Breakfast places too - website below has a fairly comprehensive list:

Various Campsites: The Budget Option
There are plenty of well-situated campgrounds here in Croyde for both tents and caravans with either a village location or overlooking the bay. All of the sites have good basic facilities such as toilets and shower blocks and some have a few extras such as on-site cafes and laundry facilites.
During the High Season expect to pay about 12 Pounds per person per night and note that during peak periods a minimum stay may be required.
Most sites take advance bookings but all are happy to accept passing trade if they have the availabilty.
Google "croyde camping" and you'll find loads of options, or a sampling on the site below:

St Helens Priory: Croydes rudest B&B- never stay here
I'm a big fan of on-line reviews and I've only ignored reviews twice - both times I've ended up with bad stay. B&Bs are excellent as more often than not you find an absolute gem with excellent service and lovely rooms. Staying at St. Helen's Priory was the first time I've found a genuinely nasty man.
Our friends were staying over the road - they had a problem with their room so came to ours to sort themselves out for 20mins. The manager heard this and aggressively asked us to get rid of them, which we did promptly. We thought the "conversation" was strange at the time, but respected his wishes.
The following morning when we were checking out, he exploded. It ended up with him saying he'd take an additional £20 of our credit card whether we authorised the transaction or not. Having asked why £20 as this seemed steep (why not £50 we sarcastically asked) he said, "OK, it's £50". Needless to say his tone and aggression never dropped. We paid the money to leave as quickly as possible.
The rooms are superficially clean but dated -plenty of cob-webs in the bathroom. Breakfast is only served in a half hour slot which reflects the quality of service and was basic. But for £75 a night, or any money come to think of it, I would never, ever stay here again. I never expect to be shouted at by accommodation staff. Equally, I don't appreciate being held to ransom by someone I'm paying for a service from and certainly feel uncomfortable with this man having my credit card details. All we wanted was somewhere peaceful to stay for a night and have some breakfast.
Croyde is a lovely place and there are plenty of excellent B&Bs with helpful, friendly owners. Don't let this place and its owner ruin your stay is it did to ours. Look elsewhere- try The Thatch.

Mitchum's Meadow: Good choice if you want to be near the beach
My friends booked this campsite for us, so I just followed their directions and met them there, not really knowing what to expect! This is a REALLY tiny campsite, so be sure to book in advance if you're heading there during the summer season as there's not a lot of space! It is about as close to the beach as you can get - just a 5 minute walk - however that does mean that it's a little way out of the town, which is about a 15min walk away, depending on how drunk you are! The shower and toilet blocks are probably the cleanest I've ever seen on a campsite, which was a really nice surprise! There aren't really any facilities as such, although there are also sinks to do your dishes in, and bricks to keep your disposable BBQs off the grass. It seems to cater very much for the surfer crowd - lots of young and energetic people staying here, but it wasn't noisy at night.
Unique Quality: They're only open for one month a year during the summer, however they have a sister site called Myrtle, which is open during selected dates for the rest of the summer season. They don't cater for children under the age of 16 and only accept small 2/3 man dome tents - no caravans, trailer tents or frame tents.
