Deddington: Rural Oxfordshire at its finest
I visited Deddington in 2009 on the trail of some of my ancestors, the Appletrees, who held vast swathes of farmland around Deddington in the 17th and 18th century.
Back then, the village was known as 'Drunken Deddington', due to the potency of its malt liquor. Nowadays you can still pop into the Deddington Arms for a pint or two, but the lure of Deddington is now more to do with its tranquility and picture postcard appeal.
