We stopped of in Dumbarton to refuel and then see the castle. Unfortunately we did not get any time to see the rest of the town - maybe next time.
However you can see quite a bit of the place from the volcnic hill on which the castle is built.
The town stands on the river Leven, just inland from the mighty Clyde. It was once famous for its shipbuilding, its most famous product being the Cutty Sark.
