Excellent city choice

This hotel is geared up for regular business guests but is excellent for independent travellers and families. if you check the online Novotel website, a family of four with two children aged 15 or under can get a breakfast inclusive room rate for around £80-90 per night. Excellent value considering the enormous buffet breakfasts on offer - people seemed to take pride in seeing how many sausages and rashers of bacon could be built into a tempting tower of cholesterol! But fear not, alongside the fried breakfasts, waffles and pastries there is an good assortment of fresh fruit salads, prunes and cereals. A small gym - and it is small - is available which will allow you to burn off your guilt! The bar and restaurant opens late into the evening. Not something we've tried although we did have reason to eat less formal bar meals one evening - eg club sandwiches and fries, pasta, pizzas - which were really pretty good.

There is paid computer access from your room via a television - really not worth it as it's very limited service and sluggish - but you are able to connect up your own laptop if you wish. Ironing boards are available in each room, as are regularly restocked free tea and coffee making facilities. All in all an excellent choice for Bristol as there is no real luxury alternative within the city. There is a Marriott but that can be noisy at the weekend and has rather mixed reviews. Families in particular should look no further.

Unique Quality: It's difficult to find an attractive recently built hotel and - bless it - the Novotel is no exception. Well to be fair it's not too bad and once you walk inside it's modern, sparkly and spacious. It's situation, just a short walk from Bristol's railway station, is first rate. You're a short jaunt away from most places (15/20 mins walk to the riverfront area where you can find smart galleries, restaurants etc) and believe me with the city's roads jam packed, and roadworks all over the place, travelling by car isn't always a relaxing experience. Motorists will however be delighted to discover that the hotel has it's own secure underground car park - it was free up until the end of last year but now charges £5 per day irrespective of how many times you pop in and out. There are two lifts than run from the car park all the way up to the top fl;oors of the hotel. Believe me, it's worth it. For those of a nautical persuasion, the city's river ferry has a stop about 5 minutes walk north of the hotel where an hourly boat (sometimes more regular) will take you deeper into the centre.

More about Novotel Bristol

Fantastic Value

by TripAdvisor Member dvondrasek

During an August visit to the UK, my daughter and I stayed in 3 hotels, one airport hotel, one central London hotel, and the Novotel Bristol. The Novotel Bristol was, by far, the best experience. While the room was not the largest, it was the most functional room we have ever stayed in in the UK. We requested an upper floor room, which we enjoyed. A very small thing - the shower water pressure on the upper floors is weak, but everything else about the room was great.

Our rate included breakfast. There was a good assortment of food - fresh fruit, cheeses, muesli, etc. along with traditional cooked English breakfast items. The restaurant staff was faultless.

I can't say enough good things about the wonderful reception and reservation staff at this hotel - helpful, knowledgable, sincere, unhurried - an absolute delight!

This hotel is in an excellent location. It's an easy walk to Bristol Temple Meads, the Empire and Commonwealth Museum, shopping, parks, neighborhoods - a real find!!!!!

Nice staff and well maintained

I had a great experience staying at Novotel Bristol Centre. I took advantage of a reduced deal offered on the Novotel website and was glad to see that, despite paying a lower-than-usual rate, there seemed to be no compromise in good service.
The staff were friendly and easy going (in a good way) and the room was ultra clean and nicely laid out. The bed was roomy, the buffet breakfast had lots of choice (though at full cost would still be a little expensive) and the design of the whole place seemed to lift it above the standard city hotel.
Also of course the location of the building is only 3 minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads station and about 5 from city centre shops - this makes it the perfect base for stays in Bristol.
I couldn't find anything to complain about during my visit and certainly look forward to staying there again on my next visit to Bristol.

Once again a very pleasant stay

Having stayed at this hotel from when it was a Holiday Inn, I've seen steady improvements over the last 3 years.
The rooms are well designed, parking is amazing and the staff always friendly and helpful.
Just a short walk to the centre and close to the railway station, a perfect choice for a mini break or business meeting.

Room was excellent for the price

by TripAdvisor Member ryanoid

We stayed in the Novotel on Sunday night and I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel's common areas are nothing to get excited about, but our room was excellent - very comfortable and with every necessary amenity. It was not an enormous room but it felt very spacious, with a large sofa in the sitting area. We also had a flat-screen TV and wireless Internet access is available for a fee.

The location is excellent also, close to the main train station and just a few minutes' walk into the main shopping area. There is also a "minigym" with a few treadmills and exercise bikes.

The only negative points I would make is that there was a limited selection of TV channels, and the buffet breakfast was probably not worth the £12 charge. However, we got a good deal on the room (£59) so I don't really have any major complaints. Other hotels in Bristol were quoting a lot more for the same stay, and I can't imagine they could have been much more comfortable than the Novotel.

I should also point out that the hotel rating is currently 4-star, despite the 3-star rating showing here on Tripadvisor.

Quite nice accomodation and not expensive for UK

by TripAdvisor Member Pepetito

Located in the Centre of Bristol and 5 min from Temple Meads railway/buses station. Nothing very special but for 70 pounds u'll get some stinky rat hole in London for example and this one is 4* hotel.
Only "gym" is big deception - couple of old rusty machines so no chance to have a good exercise. And no swimming pool.
But on 4 floor right opposite the lifts they have Japanese ice cubes making device!!!

Lovely

I stayed for one night in a twin room at the Novotel. The hotel is modern and clean.

As it was a weekend I'd managed to find a cheap deal so it was even good value.

The room had views across the street - unfortunately it was provided lovely views of the marathon which closed half of Bristol over the weekend we were there. This was a nightmare as we were hoping to travel out of Bristol on a road that was closed and diversion signs were non-existant.

Anyway overall the hotel is highly recommend - its close to Temple Meads station and in walking distance of the old town and shops.

Pity the cleaner did a rush job.

The modern building looked promising and the Reception staff were very friendly but the lobby smelt of cigarettes and chips. Off the lobby is a gloomy looking bar which leads into the restaurant. The lifts are old and shabby but the rooms are nicely refurbished and a reasonable size. It could be a one-off from this reputed Hotel chain but the room was not very clean. None of the surfaces had been wiped and that put me right off ! The breakfast is OK if you like long-life orange juice, frozen potato things, scrambled egg-powder, tinned mushrooms and lukewarm coffee. Fortunately there's a decent coffee shop 100 yards away by the bridge. I've stayed at lots of Novotels but they let me down this time. On my next trip I'll return to the City Inn.

most enjoyable 2 night stay

by TripAdvisor Member blokeymann

We have just returned from our 3 night stay at the Novotel Victoria St in Bristol (Oct 16-19 2006) where my Wife and I had a most enjoyable stay. We booked at a discounted rate via otel.com. Check in was efficient and check-in staff very helpful. Parking in in the Hotels own car park situated under the hotel, and there is a lift direct from the car park up into the hotel.

Our room was on the top floor - floor 4 - and at the front of the hotel overlooking Victoria St. The room was a double room but quite large and I would say fairly recently updated decor and furniture wise. Bed: 5 foot, very comfortable. Large sofa bed (would seat 3-4).
20in LCD TV with some satelite foreign language channels and a facility to play your own mp3 player via the TV.

No wireless internet access was found, although if you have your own Laptop you can hook up to the internet via the RJ45 LAN cable provided - only thing is they charge £5 for 1 hours access or £10 for 24 hours - and thats 1 or 24 hours elapased starting from when you 1st connect. This (imho) overchaging was a shame, idealy it should be free (after all what does it cost the hotel?) or failing that something more reasonable like £3 for 24 hours.

Bathroom was bath with shower over. nicely decorated and clean, only thing is the shower's water flow was a little feeble - but adaquate (but i was forewarned about this by the previous trip advisor reviewers)

Room has small fridge with (usual) over priced drinks and snacks (eg £2 for a Kit-Kat) but theres room in it for some of your own stuff if you choose like we did to buy the same stuff from the convienience store 1 mins walk accross Victoria Street.

Breakfast was excellent on all 3 days, with very good choice of cerials, breakfast fruits, yoghurts, croissants, pastries, toast, and all the English cooked breakfast items (well plenty anyway). All selfe service eat as much as you like basis. Pleasant and efficient restaurant staff. Free Independant newspaper available for the taking, and on most days the local daily Metro newspaper as well.
Parking, is chargeable, at £5 a day (or less for part of a day), you take a ticket on car park entry and get reception to validate it just before you leave with you car. It dont matter how many time s you come and go with your car - they will not chage you more than £5 a day. That's not such a bad deal as alternative parking isn't easy to find in this part of Bristol. Never had a problem finding a space.

Other stuff: We did try room service, food was good, service good (20 mins they said and 20 mins it was) and reasonable priced (no tray charge). Bills - can see your running bill on the TV screen in your room. AirCon/Heating in room - individual control worked well. Noise: occasional sirens (fire engines mostly - fire station is in the next street) and occasional room doors banging, other wise fine, and certainly not a problem.

Overall: Very Good, would definitely stay here again. Great location.
What could be better: 1. free or reasonable internet access 2. more power in the shower

Great Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights Fri/Sat and could not fault it. High standards throughout, helpful staff and the restaurant was excellent. Great value for money. Would highly recommend it.
