live music in Bristol?

by mindcrime

Any suggestions about small or big pubs/clubs with live music in Bristol's city center?

I'm more into blues/jazz but any suggestion(indie rock etc) will be nice.

The Old Duke often has live music, it's a great place for Jazz and Blues.

The Thekla (an old boat) has live bands playing, more rocky/indie, though after the bands have finished it turns a bit techno!!

The Old Duke is THE place to go in Bristol for live Jazz.....

Have fun!

All those steps and different levels are certainly interesting after all the good bitters they serve!

Travel Tips for Bristol

Check out the markets! St Nicholas Markets is a fab place for finding all sorts of stuff for bargain prices. Well, what I miss most is of course my fiancee, who lives in Bristol!:) I cry every time I have to leave his loving arms, and am planning to move to Bristol or the neighboring city of Bath (gorgeous!) later this summer.

I am in love with Blaise Castle Estate on the northwestern side of Bristol. It's a gorgeous park, and my all-time favourite tv series Robin of Sherwood was filmed there. It must be one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited and I hope I can continue visiting it for the rest of my life!

Durham Downs reputed to be haunted by a drawf highway man who was hanged there. The Downs is a large grassy expanse with the trees lining the road surrounded many large georgian houses owned by rich merchants. One of the houses is now owned by the Bristol Stage School. At certain times of the year, funfairs and circuses open their doors to the public.

by jtb2inky

Take a FREE walking tour of Bath. Blue-badge volunteer tour guides lead these walking tours of Bath. The best news is that they are free, and they are very good. The guides are veritable experts in the city of Bath. They know the history of who lived in what buildings and all sorts of other Bath area trivia. Ask lots of questions. Unless you take one of these tours you will walk by all kinds of wonderful sites in Bath and never know the significance of them. For example, you may see iron-grates in front of lower-than-street-level windows of buildings that have an odd and peculiar bell-shaped bend in them. If you take one of the walking tours you will find out that they were designed that way say that women in Georgian times, with their hoop dresses, could stand next to the gate without worrying about someone peering through the window below and in turn up the ladies dress. The tours start right in front of the Roman Bath Museum and last approximately two hours. There are very few steps on this tour to deal with, so strollers are easy to manages if you are with small children.

A Hidden Gem!

by suvanki about Amoeba

This was the place we ended up at after our meal, Pete had found it at one of his previous meetings in Bristol, and took us there.

The Amoeba has a lovely atmosphere, quite chilled!

Spice Warehouse

by clivedinburgh about Myristica

We noticed this place whilst dashing through puddles the night before and kept it in mind, so when the concierge at our hotel recommended it, we were sold.

The venue on King Street appears to be an old bonded warehouse but it has been gentrified and the kitchen is on show for all to see their choices being prepared. We were given a quiet table at the rear and were more than happy with the service on offer. Fiona's crab starter came with a fake battered crab (made of onions we think) that set her aback for a we while, just sorry I didn't get a pic. A sure sign that my withdrawal from VT is working OK.
