I'm moving to Bristol at the end of the month and I love to go to car boot sales.
Anyone know of any in and around Bristol?
I searched on google and only found some in another forum of 2005, bit out of date now.
One mentioned was in Bradley Stoke (where I'm actually moving to), is this still going? Is it any good?
I'm thinking that looking in the local papers once I get there might be the way to go....?
Thanks for any help.
Give me a couple of days and I'll search the local papers for you. :-)
Ooh, that would be great! Thanks :-)
I've looked in today's local paper Emma, but there is nothing in there about car boot sales. There is, however, a great listing of everything that is going on in Bristol including bras, concerts etc. Would you like me to send it to you? If you do, email me your address and I'll get it in the post for you today.
Grete
Just done :-)
Thanks!!
Last I heard, 'Trench Lane' [the Bradley Stoke] car boot sale still existed. It is on Sundays, official start time around 12 (I believe) but many people there by 10. I was there a year ago and it was big and good.
Best wishes,
Martin
Ooh great, I'll look forward to it, thanks Martin.
Just to let you all know i went to the Bradley Stoke one on Sunday and it was great!!! I bought lots of stuff, mugs for 10p, vases, a cycle helmet for £1, a few books.
I'm so pleased, can't go cold turkey on my car boots :-)
Pleased for you. I know the area very well, so if you need tips on anything else, send a message.
Would like to know whether the car boot sale at 'Trench Lane' [the Bradley Stoke] still happening on Sundays. Never been to any car boot sale before.
I moved into an unfurnished house recently. Would like to try my luck if it is going on.
Sorry, it closes for the Winter.
The below link tells you what's on when....

The tradition of aerosol art and graffiti exploded in the US gang culture of the 1970's. Bristol was one of the first cities in the UK to embrace graffiti in a big way. Since London has become bristling with CCTV cameras, Bristol is again an important city. It is filled with amazing, intelligent and witty aerosol art. Often it brightens-up sad neglected spaces. World famous graffiti artist, Banksy, comes from Bristol. Many other famous UK graffiti artists started here - Sickboy, Copyright, Cheba, TCF...
Graffiti changes and is replaced often. There are several locations in Bristol with amazing street art. For example, Stokes Croft, the self-styled 'cultural quarter'. And the Dame Emily Park south of the River Avon, on Dean Lane. Bristol City Council has reluctantly decided to preserve Banksy's existing paintings (though they are not doing a very good job - several have been destroyed!!).
So, if you stray away from the historic city centre, keep a look out for Bristol's special culture.
'Dave' Written in the road.
A little quirky thing... As you walk out the station, turn left and walk to the first pedestrian crossing. Don't cross yet! You should have passed a couple of bus stops and be able to see a few more on the other side of the road. You should also be able to see the Somerfield supermarket ahead, and maybe even the Boots Pharmacy store. Now cross the road to the island. Do not cross again, yet. Turn around 180 degrees to where you just came from and look down. There! was it worth all that effort? There should be 'Dave' written in the road.
If anyone gets a picture of this, can they send it to me. Ta :-)
One of Britain's biggest theatres, the Hippodrome plays host to opera, musicals middle-of-the-road drama and the occasional event requiring lots of seats to put bums on.
On 17 April 1960, rock 'n' roll legends Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent played a gig here, their last on a UK tour. Deciding not to hang about after the show, they hired a taxi to take them to what was then London Airport. Whether the young driver let his special passengers get to his head or not, he put his foot down but got no further than Chippenham where the taxi ploughed into a railway bridge. Cochran was killed. Gene Vincent was so severely injured he walked with a limp for the rest of his life.
We were supposed to leave from Bristol by bus one cold sunday morning with Megabus. The bus of this company departs opposite the Colston Hall so there is no station to buy cofee, water or whatever. It was Sunday morning and everything was closed. Hopefully, we noticed that Siesto On The Hipodrome was open right on the main square.
The prices were ok (cappuccino £2.05, Macchiato £1.60, Latte £1.85 etc) and they also serve many sandwiches, pastry etc) There was only one problem, there is no WC!! So, I stopped drinking my tea till I get to the bus :))
