Holiday Inn Woking: Comfortable + convenient

OK its not in Ascot - Woking is 10 miles (20 minutes by car) away. However, Ascot specializes in top of the range hotels. I was needing 2 rooms, so something more modest was called for. Plus, at the time of Royal Ascot the more local hotels are filled up months in advance.

This place was a big success. Not quite 4 star - maybe 3.5. We paid only £62 per night per room including a fine buffet breakfast. Even allowing for the fact that one room was single occupancy, it was great value for money for that part of the country.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, although sometimes they could have done with being pointed in the right direction by their managers.

We arrived about 10pm and wanted something light from room service - ended up with a couple of very good salads in good time. Next night, by the time we got in from the horse racing we just wanted to eat in the hotel restaurant . The "greeter" admitted that a big group had just been seated so service might be a bit slow - refreshingly honest and very welcome. Reception sent us round to good Italian only 5 minutes away.

On departure, reception was very helpful with information about Windsor Castle.

Another plus factor was that its only about 20-30 minutes drive from Heathrow.

Unique Quality: Good staff.

Good value + quality.
