More about Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa
Very child friendly
by TripAdvisor Member johnOxon
Ww stayed at the Berystede hotel on good friday after a trip to legoland. On arrrival at the hotel we were greeted warmly and the children were given an easter egg each.
Our room was spacious and the children both had a colouring activity pack waiting for them. We found the pool and leisure facilities very good and clean. It was especially good for the adults with various saunas etc and a nice hydro pool.
Our evening meal in the restaurant was very good and the children were made to feel very welcome by the staff, The childrens menu was good and our girls both polished off two very large bowls of pasta followed by a really good sized pudding. Our only gripe would be that there should be a cheaper selection of wines.
Breakfast in the hotel was very good again with plenty of choice.
We would certainly return it is an ideal location for legoland
.ascot and Windsor. This booking was made with our tesco clubcard points and it was great.
very pleasant
by TripAdvisor Member gincott
just spent two nights at the berystede hotel in ascot, we stayed there 5 years ago and were very disappointed, but i am pleased to sya that the overhaul and refurb that this hotel has undergone is amazing, the rooms are lovely and the staff are very pleasant and courteous, reception staff very helpfull and room service great, rooms are clean and the mini bar well stocked. breakfast had a good choice, can't comment on dinner food as we ate out, the price of drinks are high but you expect this in a Hotel, the only thing i would say is to shop around for the price we booked on line and go the room £100 cheaper than booking direct this was for a two night stay. overall a great weekend away.
more 4 star than 3
by TripAdvisor Member LondonMel
I stayed at the hotel in early January for a week for a conference that was conducted in the hotel. Having read the reviews on this website, I was not expecting much so I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I did not however pay for my stay or my food myself so I really couldn't comment on value for money (which seems to be a common gripe). Overall I would say that it compares quite well with a lot of the 4 star business hotels that I have stayed in.
The lobby area and the bar are very traditionally sophisticated in an oak panelled kind of way. The staff were generally excellent, very helpful and friendly with one exception - they seem to have outside contractors doing the cleaning around the hotel and these people can be quite rude an abrupt (unlike the general staff of the hotel).
My room was a decent size with a large, very comfortable bed and modern furniture. The bathroom was very nice and new but a bit on the small size. There was an easy to use safe in the room and internet connection points (didn't get the chance to try these out). I was in the extension to the back of the hotel that was fairly close to main road but I didn't find this to be a problem at all (even when I slept with the window open on a couple of nights).
The food in the restaurant is excellent. Very modern cuisine with a good variety that changes daily. Lunches that were catered for the conference were also quite decent (selection also changed daily). The only problem foodwise was that, on the busier days, it could be slow to get a hot breaskfast in the morning (cold breakfast items such as cereals, pastries, yoghurts, fruit, cold meats etc were on a buffet).
The hotel seems to have an excellent fitness centre. I heard that the gym was quite decent and I used the pool for lap swimming each day. The pool is a good temperature (I read the thermometer and it was about 22C) and, at 18m, it is a decent length for lap swimming (even though it is a bit smaller than what most regular lap swimmers will be used to). The crowning glory is probably the 'Thermal Suite' connected to the pool which is a series of sauna type rooms that range in temperatute from 9C to about 80C. There was a general warm relaxation room with deck chairs and magazines as well as an aroma grotto, a salt infusion steam room, a traditional rock sauna, an infrared sauna, an ice igloo (brrr!), a massage shower and an 'experience shower' (which included a fragrance shower). The Thermal Suite was excellent and not crowded and I could definitely have spent lots more time down there!
The hotel is probably best accessed by car because it is quite a walk from the station (about 0.75 miles), the nearest town of South Ascot (about 0.5 miles) and from the main town of Ascot (about 1.5 miles). There is nothing really within easy walking distance from it and we discovered that walking once the sun goes down is not advisable as there is little or no street lighting around the area.
enjoyed our stay

We stayed here twix Christmas and New Year and had great time with a great location. Woking, Reading and Guildford close by and direct trains to Waterloo from the station, you really are spoilt for choice.
The breakfast was fantastic, a massive cold buffet to choose from and hot food as well, we eat well. We never tried dinner so I can comment but if anything like Breakfast you wont have reason to worry. We were on a B&B rate after having shopped around various web sites and got a cracking deal - so make sure you do the same thing.
Only 2 little complaints, firstly the pool was only luke warm at best and secondly the surcharge for paying by credit card was not what I expected of a 4* hotel.
Somethings were not as promised

When the booking was made certain requests were made i.e Champagne in the room on arrival, a room with a four poster bed and also as it was Valentines Day for there to be roses in the room again on arrival. The room was very nice however there was no four poster bed, champagne or roses. When we enquired at reception the issue of the roses and champagne was resolved quickly. As my partner had planned all this as a surprise for me he felt very let down that what he had requested had not been done. He was also told there would be live music at the Valentines meal however it turned out that this was only actually on the Saturday evening. These issues aside we did find the hotel to have a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and tidy although we did have air vents right outside one of the windows. Our stay was for only one night and was very enjoyable so much so that we have already said we would like to go back again.

We stayed here because of the Tesco Deals Vouchers we had. One night cost £248, Tesco Deals paid £210 and we had to pay £38 to upgrade to an executive room - no basic rooms available and the deals promotion only covers them!
At that price we were expecting something special but weren't impressed at all. The Reception Area is nice but the room wasn't anything special, there was a rug/blanket throw on the bed that looked like a car rug!
The Pool and Spa area was nice but very unfriendly staff who seemed to look down their noses at us. The pool area was being decorated but we'd had no warning of this so the whole area smelt of paint and there was lots of banging going on - not exactly relaxing!
Our biggest gripe though was the cost of wine and water in the evening. The food was included - as long as we stuck to one side of the menu, you had to pay extra is you chose something from the other side! Still water was £5 a bottle and a half bottle of white wine was £15! Also, there was a 12.5% "discretionary service charge" for the evening meal which came to £9.94 for us.
Other people have mentioned the £2 charge for paying by card.
Given the amount it cost to stay here for the night we were expecting something really special - we didn't get it!
WOnderful Wedding!
by TripAdvisor Member TurkeyBurger
The whole family visited the hotel on the 19th May as it was my cousins wedding. The hotel is set in fabulous grounds and has all the facilities, this hotel is huge. I didn't get the chance to use the spa but my partner said it was really nice.
The staff were very obliging and the food was lovely. We paid £130 B & B which was a special wedding rate and if staying 2 nights it was £100 per night.
The wedding went with a real swing, the house DJ was great and everyone was up on the dance floor by the end of the night (that may have been something to do with the large amounts of alcohol consumed and also the great band my cousin had hire in). The bar seemed to stay open forever after the music stopped too! The room where the wedding was, which I beleive is an extension, was nicely decorated. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a wedding venue.
Beautiful surroundings & area

I stayed at this hotel with my 5 year old son - we paid £99 a night including the adults breakfast and an extra £5 for the childrens breakfast. Upon arrival we were greeted by a really nice Concierge guy who was more than willing to look after our bags and offer information on the local area. The check in was quick and I was offered and smoothie upon arrival and my son a marshmallow. The room was small but nicely furnished and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Although the bathroom was very small and it was hard to move around comfortably. We used the pool which was great it had special swimming times when kidsare allowed this made you feel more comfortable knowing you weren't annoying people when your kids were just jumping in rather than swimming as adults do have plenty of hours to swim when the kids aren't around. The hotel is 7 mins from Legoland and an exellent base (Legoland isn't so as great as it had been built up to be - the queues' were horrendous). Breakfast in the hotel starts with a continental buffet with cereals and meats/cheeses/yoghursy/fruits very well stocked however the hot breakfast is taken by order at your table - I ordered (being a vegetarian and them having no alternative to bacon/sausage), scrambled egg and mushrooms, when is was served to me - i was given a VERY small amount of egg and ONE mushroom!! I looked at the waitress and asked her if it was a joke (she didn' understand - not being english - as very few of the staff are) I had to ask for a more generous portion...the same thing happened the next morning. We ate at Pizza Express in nearby Sunningdale FABULOUS area - worth a drive just to look at the houses - we saw one for sale in the estate agents for £15 million!!!!! I would recommend the hotel as it is clean full of character and in a fabulous location. ENJOY!
Very helpful and friendly staff
by TripAdvisor Member GillCambridgeshire
We visited the hotel with our family - 8 in all- to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. We were very impressed with all aspects of the hotel in particular the staff who were very helpful. The reception staff were professional and the booking for rooms and extras was dealt with efficiently and correctly. Also the restaurant staff were brilliant and the food excellent. The breakfast was cooked
to order which was another plus factor. So many hotels have a buffet which is often cold and unappetising. The spa was amazing. In short a
super weekend and we will be returning.
Lovelg Grand Setting, BUT????
by TripAdvisor Member fujiama
Ok, we went for the Ascot racing about 18 of us and stayed here, initial impression was fabulous, however no offer of help to our room and being a girly weekend you can imagine we werent travelling light! Lugged cases for miles through corridors and up and down stairs! Breakfast was good, the Spa was excellent except we had to wait for it to open as they seem to open later than advertised on a saturday morning, then had to ask gym attendant to swith air con on, it was either that or pass out with heat exhaustion!! Seemed to be no service for teas & coffees or soft drinks between 10am and 12pm, despite there being staff around that could have at least asked if we needed anything! Any way long and short we had a fab weekend, this is a lovely hotel, the drivers that drove us every where were fabulous and so helpful, if they could just improve the bits that are missing it would be amazing!!
