Travel Tips for Reading

There is an excellent...

There is an excellent selection of West Indian cuisine on sale in the Oxford road at a bakery run by the local Church. It is about 500yds up the road from Reading centre on the left hand side after the bus stop.

Best kebabs in town

by KennetRose about Shahzad Curry & Kebab

This small, basic café is Indian owned and serves a variety of cheap and cheerful Indian meals. However, the best reason for coming here are the doner kebabs, which may come as a surprise but in fact the kebab pyramids used throughout much of southern England are supplied by a Reading-based and Indian-owned company. Doner kebabs. They are generously proportioned and come with a freshly-baked naan bread rather than the more usual pitta.

The 'Ding!

"My uni home"

Reading is where I've lived for uni for the past three years. As I've now finished my degree, my time here is about to come to end. Reading has got some good and bad sides most definitely! If you're a student, its a great place to be, as the town is really aimed at students. There are loads of clubs and restaurants and basically loads to do. However, some areas of the town are a bit dodgy (like where I live!) and so you wouldn't want to walk around on your own at night if ur a female. There is quite of bit of crime too - theres been some murders and mayhem here since I've been here, more than where I live in Essex. But Reading is great for its multicultural atmosphere and how its like a mini London. Plus the shopping is FAB!!

Reading

by Sarah169

Reading is just like any big city in the south, it has a good shopping area and nightlife, but not much to see in terms of sightseeing.

Claims to fame include the ruins of Reading Abbey, Reading Gaol which was where oscar wilde was kept, and thats about it. There are some gorgeous 18th/19th century houses in the housing estates, but a lot of these are getting knocked down.
