Nice Hotel, Horrible Hotel Owner

It was a Chilly Christmas evening, My wife and I decided that we would pass through reading to visit the ORACLE shopping centre and stay the night at a local Hotel, we chose the Caversham House lodge as it seemed pleasant and good value for money, as we entered the reception the first warning bell went off when the guy behind the counter (whose name is NICK and from investigation is the actual owner) well he looked me up and down, murmured something to his colleague who then also looked us up and down. I felt quite uncomfortable however I was tired and ignored this first impression. I ordered a room for £30, i was given a key and directions to our room and I must say it was Beautiful, clean, spacious and even had bright white net curtains. it felt very fresh indeed, well worth £30. we settled down, unpacked and around 30 minutes later there was a loud knock at the door, it was nick, he asked if we could pay upfront before we can actually stay, this is strange, generally you pay when you leave, however he insisted we pay up front, at first i was like, okay fine, you could of told us this downstairs, yet you have interrupted us and made us feel untrustworthy. I later had a conversation at breakfast with two couples who said nick didn't ask them to pay up front, then it dawn on me, they were both white, me and my wife are black, and this is why I feel he looked us up and down, this is the 21st century and even though the hotel is probably one of the best value for money stays we have had, the hospitality that nick gave was little less than insulting

Unique Quality: spacious rooms, very clean, parking at rear, close to Reading town centre and the Oracle, Great view of the river kennet with lots of swans.
